Here's the lowdown on the car im leaning towards...
1992 LX Hatchback 5.0
T-5 transmission
48,000 original miles
$6900
bone stock except for flowmasters and 3.73's
any how i need some tech info on the 302 and T5
does it have iron or aluminum heads?
what are the valve sizes?
what is the duration and lift of the stock cam?
how much lift can the stock valve springs take?
as for the transmission...
what are the Gear Ratios for the World Class T-5?
I know the ratios for the World Class T5 used in the Camaro and Firebird, and i imagine they would be the same but i dont know for sure.
any info is appreciated...feel free to toss in any other tidbits of info.
thanks http://www.mustangworks.com/interactive/msgboard/smile.gif

Iron heads, not sure about the valves, wanna say 1.6 for the intake? not sure though. As for the cam, I'm not absolutely sure either, but I want to say like .412 duration. although, another number that is springing to mind is .444 something close to that. gear ratios for the World class are 3.35, 1.99, 1.33, 1.0, and .68, reverse is 3.15. Sounds like a nice car. Low miles, have fun with it.

Sounds like a good building block. As for your qestions.... 1)Iron heads 2)1.78" intake valves 1.45" ext 3)The lift in 92 is .444 but they changed the duration 4)Thats a tuff question, seems like around .480 or so, but I have seen guys run .517 lift on stock springs... I wouldnt do it 5)Again first was chaged to 2.95, but the others stayed the same as earlier T5's Hope this helps out

What will they normally run in the 1/4? and what do you think this one will run?
My goal is to consistently run 13.5, after that im done.
What will i need to get me there.
Its like learning all over again...heh, i know all these things when pertaining to a Camaro http://www.mustangworks.com/interactive/msgboard/smile.gif

93Snake - First gear in the 92 T5 is 3.35:1 ratio. The earlier transmissions had 2.95. I have also heard that the cobras had 2.95 but I'm not sure about that. I am almost positive that the 92 was 3.35.

I believe that that car, with 3.73 gears, is very close to running 13.5 now, and would only take some simple mods to make it get there. If you were to do the intake, that would probably get you there.

Will G,
I'd pull the f/swaybar,intake silencer, bump the timing, maybe throw in a k&n filter, try to borrow a set of stickies from a friend,( not to tall though maybe 26") pump the front tires up to 38 to 40 psi and let fly.you should be close to 13.5

If you are wondering if the car has had the crap beaten out of it look under the carpet where the drivers side seat bolts in the front and see if there has been any welding done. I tore mine out beating the crap out of mine. http://www.mustangworks.com/interactive/msgboard/biggrin.gif If it has been welded it's something to think about, maybe talk 'em down.

13.5 with an all stock car is not as easy they are saying.
With my notch (lighter than a hatch)
4.10's, south sides, 50/50's,pullies,cold air induction,a/c delete, smog delete, ET Streets,long tubes, 2 1/2 flowmaster cat-back, i went 13.20's @ 104
Pullies,4.10 and tires got me 13.90's

4.10's,long tubes & 75 shot...Goes 12.50's

Compression ratio is 9.0:1.
I thought the T-5's after 1985 got 2.95 first gear ratios, which upped the torque capacity from 260lb/ft to 285lb/ft. Then later they went to the "z" spec, which further increased torque load to 305lb/ft with the 3.35 1st ratio, and in the Cobra 2.95 for 330lb/ft. I'm not sure when they began using the tapered roller bearing for the input shaft that designated the "z" spec, and I believe that tranny also got slightly stronger gears as well.
Baseline for a bone *** stock '92 T-5 GT should be around 14.5. Make sure the air silencer is outta there, add a cold air induction, underdrive pullies, 3.73's, bump the timing, DR's and with very good driving a 13.5 should be within reach. Adding a catback and a larger fuel pump(which should be done anyway, the stock fuel pump is weak) should add a little extra to the top end, which may give you that little needed boost if you are only a tenth away. Otherwise a hi-flow cat or off road H-pipe can give you some hp too.
It's not too hard, and not too expensive to get that car to run a 13.5. Dropping below that gets trickier.

I see alot of people putting the Cobra Intake and GT40 heads on them, what sort of power is that good for?
also what type of RPM's does a T5 car turn on the highway with 3.73's?
My Z28 has an auto with 3.23's my OD gear is .70:1, i turn about 2500@70mph

Check out the whole car out real good, and if everything is real nice, BUY IT! It is getting harder, and harder to find low mileage Fox cars. You won't regret it (as long as its in good condition.) 13.5 aren't that hard to get in that car. Since it has the 3:73's, just throw on some bolt on's (pulleys, exhaust, and free mods) and get some sticky tires. Good luck.

13.5's should be very easy with that car....remember, you are used to a Camaro (ouch)...just throw on some exhaust and some drag radials and you're on your way
