Put the 6 point roll cage in today!
Went in with a little sweat, a few painful burns and a couple small fires (that sound deading material really catches quick!)
I didn't bother with the two points that go to the hump in the floor...I may put them in later if I want to go to eight points.

At least it is easy to get out of the car when the top is down!

Which cage did you get? I'm considering putting one in my 89vert before April 20th so I can maybe make a few passes in Atlanta. Did you have to modify it atall to get it to fit?

I got the comp engineering kit. Since the kit is made for 79-93 stangs, I had to modify the cage a lot but as far as the car goes, very little had to changed

it was not the easiest thing to do...I am glad one of my good friends is a welder!

Tell me about it! A friend of mine was trying to cut out a pice of metal on my old V6 stang by the front of the back right tire (water hose was already ready for action) and that sound deadening material catches on fire. I thought to myself, "bye bye baby" as it got bigger as we tried to put it out. By the time we put it out, it had melted the seat belt retracter box for the passenger front seat, and the inside right panel.

No wonder cars burn up so quick! You would think they would use something that was a little more flame retardant!


Well, it came unfinished and I painted it black...but during the install it got scratched all to hell. After I clean up the welds a little I am going to repaint the spots that got messed up.

ed1371 Congrats on the cage, How do you like it so far? When I got mine I was amazed at how much it changed the ride and stiffened up the car.

That is the same cage I was thinking of getting. I've been told you have to cut about an inch off the bottom for it to clear the top. Too bad someone doesn't make a cage specifically for the convertibles.

Did you leave the back seat out? I wanted to try and put the seat back in but am now wondering if it would make any sense to, I don't think someone would be able to get back there that easily anyhow. Maybe I could just have a box custom made, for my 10" subs, that would fit good back there.

I am 100% satisfied with it. The car feels so different. The usual creaks and rattles that plagues verts is gone and WOW does it handle! I didn't realize just how much my car flexed until now.

Doesn't hurt that it looks great too!

A couple companies do make cages for specific make and model...I was cheap though and figured saving the money was worth the work.

I put the back seat back in. I did that for a few reasons

they dont weigh much (like 8 pounds total!)

The interior looks HORRIBLE without the seat! I suppose I could have carpeted the back but reason #3 came into play...

It quiets the car a lot. The top pump is back there too and is really loud without the seat

It looks bad as$ with two rear support bars coming out the sides of the rear seat. only hat to cut notches into the aluminum backing on the seat, the padding/leather conformed around it perfect.
