Post h-pipe

Ok, I really want my next step to be an H-pipe, because I LOVE the sound of my car. However, seeing that I am in the very strict California, I would have to get one with 2 Hi-flow cats. What Im wondering is whether I should even put the pipe on. Is it worth it? Will I feel a big difference? Anyone have experience w/this? Thanks.

An aftermarket H or X pipe will yield good results in sound and performance. I understand CA has an OEM style rule. Basically, it has to be stock, a direct replacement (same number of cats for example), or an exception such as the Windsor GT40 program.

It seems to depend on where you go for emissions testing, cause I've known some people that have gotten all sorts of off the wall stuff passed, and have had some very tame stuff failed.

How mechanical are you, and do you have a good place to work? I also know a lot of people that drive with an aftermarket pipe (usually off-road), then swap the stock part back in for the testing day. Its really not that hard to do.

I could change the pipes for testing, no problem, but is it worth it to do that? How much power am I sacrificing to put one w/cats on? Also, if I get pulled over for it, how big is the penalty? Thanks again 97snakedriver.

If your gonna go that route why don't you just get a off road h and just change it before testing there very easy to change i'd rather change 20 4.6's compare to 1 5.0

Is it true that they sell "fake" converters to clasp over the pipe for the appearance of cats?

You can be pulled over for not having cats, and I believe the fine is a lot, 4 figures. I think it only happens when the cop almost catches you doing something else, and decides he wants to get you for something.

But, a Bassani X pipe with cats does have very good power and sound results.

Not only is it illegal to run no cats, but it is a FEDERAL offense. Nothing screams "
illegal exhaust mods" to a cop like no cat
