I got an off road H pipe to 2 chamber flowmasters and it loves not having the cats on there! With the C+L 80mm MAF and that exhaust, you can hear it breath easier. As far as the headers, yuo can do it without pulling the engine. It's just a bunch of blind reaches.

Are your mufflers chambered or straight through type? Someone once said that H-pipes work better with chambered muffs and X-pipes work better with straight thru. I don't know how much truth is in that. I do know that H-pipes have a more throaty rumble, and X-pipes are higher pitched. Whichever you chose, I recommend going with high flow cats instead of offroad. The power gain is about the same and your exhaust won't stink. Hope this helps!

Oh yeah, talk about breathing get a cold air intake. They are good for around 15 hp!

King Snake- It is true about X-pipes only work at their full potential w/ a straight through muffler. This is a fact. Remember that the X-pipe was designed as a NASCAR piece, so dealing w/ something such as a chambered of baffled muffler wasn't even existant as part of the design. As far as H-pipe, i am not sure whether they work better w/ a chambered or straight through muffler. I have heard they work better w/ the chambered, but as far as that being fact, I'm don't know.

I'd Knig Snake- My mufflers are chambered, but the mandrel bent tubes a 2.50.. Yeah I'll go with u guys on the High flow cats.. And also correct me if im worng but so far the biggest throttle body for the 4V's is the 63mm?? If not which is the biggest and who makes it?? thank's dude's for all ure help..and keep smokin them Chevy's

BBK makes a twin 63mm throttle. FRPP makes a single bore throttle, but it requires some grinding ("blending" by the catalog) on the intake manifold.

As far as the X-pipe/Nascar thing, someone has been reading Bassani's ads too closely. But in general(key word here) a H-pipe will work better with a matched (also a key word here) cat back and a X-pipe will work better with a straight though muffler(ditto).

Why, is complicated. Back preasure? Actually Delta P. But for 1 or so hp I would say, just go with the sound you like best.

For those who may not know, Delta P as 97snakedriver is refering to means differential pressure. In the case of an muffler, the difference in pressure at points before the muffler and after the muffler. This pressure drop is directly proportional to the resistance to flow, or restriction, of the muff. Works just like electricity and hydraulics.

That is not totally true. Hydraulics assume that the medium is non-compressible, in the case of air, not true. For most simple applications this assumption can be made, however there are small errors in the calculations. The pressure drop is not directly proportional to the air resistance. In this case, Pressure is proportional to the square of the resistance. But then again that is just me (an engineer) being overly picky. .
Other than that excellent explanation

Thanks for the clarification. Knowing how modifications effect your engine will help one make better decisions about thier mods, and plus knowing how everything works together is half the fun!

By the way, I am also an engineer but I deal with industrial automation systems.

Cool

I think there are several engineers on this board. Probably not many Mining Engineers like me. I think there are several computer engineers and mechanical engineers. Pretty cool how mustangs apeal to everyone from Engineers to 15 year old mustang owners (that one is for 98'mustang, atleast I hope he's still 15 If not sorry.)

Speaking of mining engineers, I work with a couple of them. I work for a large cement manufacturing company who employs a lot of them. We have a large open pit mine here at my location in middle Georgia.

Anyone can have a mod Mustang made to go fast; but the people who actually are interested in doing the work themselves and learning from what they do are the people I find most interesting and learn the most from.

Sorry if I strayed from the topc.
