Unhappy Had to put my Cat to sleep.

Today is dreary dreadful day. Overcast skies and a slight drizzle have been the scene since Monday. That alone is enought to get my spirits down. To add to my already depressed state, I was awoken by my mom this morning to recieve bad news.

My favorite cat, my buddy Ceaser, lay at the bottom of the garage steps twisted in a ugly fashion. He was having spasms, and unresponsive. I could tell by the way his body lay that his back was broken. A touch to the bottom of his hind feet got no response, only after a few strokes of his fur on his head did he raise his head.

I got my pet carrier and ripped the lid of it off. Literally ripped it. I placed him in there as easy and gentely as I could. He meowed a few times and I began to cry. I knew what the vet was going to say but I still clung on to hope.

Last night, When I got home from work, I noticed his absence. He usually sits at the stairs in the garage that lead into the kitchen and waits to be let back in. After he eats he used to come into my room and jump on my lap while I replied and browsed this sight.

He used to lay on my pillows and swat at my stuffed monkeys. He was always there when anyone was sick. Always liked watching TV with the Family.

I sped to the vets and ran in holding the pet carrier as level as I could while bargeing throught the doors.

I told them he had apparently been hit by a car. They asked me a few questions and took him. But before they took him I gave him one last pet.

He was paralyzed and had internal injuries. Even if he could overcome not bieng able to use his back legs, he would have no way to relieve himself and suffered. It broke my heart to tell them to put him to sleep. It was not an easy decision to make. He was such a good kitten. Only had him a year and a half. I could of been selfish and told them to do everything they could, but that would only prolong his pain, and his suffering.

It was of no comfort that the Lady doctor told me I did the right thing, he's still gone.

I'm saddened, but not so much that I cant realize I should be gratefull for having him for a loyal pet, and for all the pleasant memories I have of him. I'll miss you Ceaser.

To think that he drug himself from where he was injured to my garage with only his front legs, maybe to see his family for one last time. I feel guilty for making the decision that i have made.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I love animals of all kinds. I have never had to do that but that has to be the hardest thing in the world. You did the right thing though, and don't worry Ceaser is up in Cat Heaven watching down and he knows you did the right thing too. Pet's are usually the hardest thing to let go. I have a dog and right now she is just laying on my bed looking at me, I can imagin the pain your going threw. He sounded like a great cat, and it's not easy to let go but aslong as you know you treated him right then he died a happy cat.

Best of wishs for the future.

I know how you feel. I've lost two dogs that seemed like they were part of the family. But you did the right thing, he would have suffered a slow, painful death if you hadn't put him to sleep. I would feel more guilty if I didn't put him to sleep.

My cat died last year from surgery at a vets office. She was really sick and I was absolutely devistated. She seemed like yours.
It's amazing how some animals can be so close to humans, they feel like a part of you, a part of your family. A part of you dies with them.
I'm so sorry to hear this, I know how you feel. Take comfort in knowing he is in a much better place where there is no more pain and suffering, knowing that you'll see him again.
I suggest after a bit you get another kitten. Seeing them play and explore takes your mind off of things, though you'll never forget your friend.

My cat was having bladder problems and my parents wanted to put him to sleep a few years ago. The vet said it wasn't causing him any pain but it just sucked for us since he pissed all over the house! I convinced my parents to let him go out on my grandparents farm though, instead of putting him to sleep. He's still alive, that was like 5 years ago. My grandparents said he loves it out there and is still healthy besides the bladder thing. But it doesn't really matter when he's on a farm out in the country.

I can't really imagine what it would be like to be in your position. I do realize it must be really painful though. You have all of our best wishes Mercury.

Unhappy Max

I feel your pain, man. My awesome dog, Max (one of the most awesome dogs in the world), died around Sept. 2000 of heart worms. I wish I could take each one of those worms b/t my finger and smash them, but I couldn't. I try and not think about it, but I still miss him. He was my friend and I felt he understood me in ways most humans couldn't. He was ALWAYS happy to see me. The thing that kinda comforted me though is that when I looked into his eyes after he died (as my dad was digging the hole to bury him in-- I didn't hang around for that, didn't wanna see that) he looked VERY peaceful, I mean very peaceful. SUCKS though.

Alright, I'm gonna leave this thread cause I'm starting to feel kinda weird...

Whoa, that was a little dramatic...

Sorry to hear about your cat. I just got rid of mine a while ago. Apt building found out about him so he had to go, but I've never really been a kitty person, even though I'm a Hello Kitty fanatic .

Drama, taken in the context used ( I could be taking it the wrong way), is an overexaggeration of feelings. What I feel over the loss of my friend/cat is not an overexaggeration.

He was a good cat, and we nursed him back from a deathly ill state when he was a kitten. He was the runt of the litter, but after some love and care, became just as healthy. He was little bit smaller than most cats, but not sickly.

Thank you all for your support. I know it may sound silly to some, and thank you for not laughing and making fun of me.

Heres a pic of the litte fella sleeping. Thank you all once again, your words are appreciated.

My deepest sympathy
I feel your pain. My cousin had to put her dog to sleep on wednesday night. Her dog Peppy was throwing up blood and my cousin found out that her dog had cancer and her kidneys were failing. Peppy was 13 when she went and her ashes will be spread out somewhere.

I know what i have to look foward to because I have a 14 year old dog but I think she will live a while longer.

I've had many cats in my life, but the one I will always remember the most is the Cat I had growing up. As far back as i can remember, We had this cat, it's name was Kaiser(something like that, hard to spell it) I belive my Parents got it before I was born. I've seen little kids that like cats, but they were really mean to them(not knowing any better) and the cats don't like them. But I don't think i was because my cat loved me up untill the day it died. The thing I remember the most, and will always stick in my mind the best about this cat, was when I moved to Springfield with my mom, and my dad kept the dog and cat(I loved my dog too, but this is a cat story, I'll save my dog for a dog story). When I came back to visit my dad, as soon as I got out of the car, my Cat, who was about 100 yards away, came running up to me and started licking me all over with a really loud purr. Soon after I left, he died. I've seen dogs run up to the owners before like the one I have now does when i come home, but I never have seen a cat do it before.

Don't worry Merc no one would laugh at you. Most of us are all animal lovers here and we know how it feels or know how it would feel if we lost our best friend. We get so attached to our animals, they show us endless love and we can never get mad. Anyone who laughs is just ignorant and doesn't know what it feels like to loose your best friend.

Best Wishs for the future.

Oh Merc, I'm so sorry to hear this news. I started out with one cat when I was 7 or 8, and when she died 14 years later, it took two to replace her. I now have 7, and think of them as my children. I don't have any words or miracles that will take the pain away, but please know my deepest thoughts and sympathy are with you.

Take care,
-Chris
