Default 351W in a 66 conv.

I'm fially in the last stages of picking the engine now that the geoverment gave me my money back. My question is and I have heard several different opinons. Will the 351W or C fit in the 66 with out any problems. I know the 351 is approx. 1 1/4 inches wider on each side. Will that cause a problem with headers or is their a place that sells headers especially for that conversion. I have also heard that it will mount to the old motor mounts and C-4 tranny with no problems, is this correct. Any help is much appreciated.

351W is a popular conversion with a minimum of headaches. 351C can be done, but it is supposed to be a bigger pain in the rear. My choice would be the 351W just because of the availability of parts and support available. But I like the looks of the 351C much better.

351W bolts in. Same mounts, same transmision.

You can buy headers that are made for the swap.

You can also stroke a 351W to 426 cu in. Now that's some cubes from a small block.

Hey man, I have a buddy doing the 351 and toploader 4 speed into a 65 coupe so I figure its all pretty much the same. I have heard him say JBA makes the shorty headers but they are like 4500 or higher for the ceramic coated. He says Headman makes a set of uncoated for a little over $100. Also He told me he cant use long tubes with the toploader but you can with the auto. His email is jtc_80@hotmail.com if you have any questions. He is real shap on those old ones and might help you out on some parts. He has a couple of parts cars right know that I know of.

Zach-----

hedman headers makes some headers for it forsure, i think hooker headers Possibly makes something, but for sure you will find them at Mustangs Plus, i believe their web page is www.mustangsplus.com and they have a good selection of suspension parts as well that most other places dont have. If that addy doesnt work try www.mustangplus.com

I have a 351W in my 65 convertible. If you need some info on how it went in let me know. There's too much to type! The first thing you'll need to tell me is which 351W you're putting in. Are you getting a Crate motor or one from back in the day? Mine was the complete Crate from Ford with the serpentine belt setup. I had to change the front cover and all the pulleys, waterpump, etc. Let me know and I can tell you how it went for me. It wasn't a great experience, I can tell you that.
