Default 94-98 Custom Gauge Bezel

Fellow SN95ers with aftermarket gauges:

I currently have 2 gauges in a dash pod, and am getting 2 more gauges, but don't want to have an A pillar mounted pod...has anyone fabricated a gauge pod for the center console? I wanted to install them where my stock radio currently is, and move the receiver down to where a factory CD would be (chucking the cubbyhole). I know this would make inserting CDs a pain whenever I get around to an aftermarket headunit, but I think I'd like the look much better, and could see the gauges better.

Has anyone done anything like this? How hard was it to do, and is the visibility ok?

Thanks

This is just a suggestion, why not keep the head unit where it is and move the two new guages in the lower hole. Your right it is a pain in the butt putitng cd's in when the head unit is mounted so low ( i.e. fox body auto cars). I have seen different companies that make different options for maunting guages in your car. Autometer makes a pod for two guages that sits on top of the dash where the clock once was or would be in an unequipped car. Also www.Floirda50.com makes an entire guage cluster. I am not sure about what they make for the sn-95 cars however. You still lookin for a fuel level guage,I have a 2-5/8" Autometer Silver face for sale, never used but unboxed. Hope this all helps.

Well, I thought about that too, I just thought it would look better with the gauges in the middle of the console and be easier to look down and read, but I guess it really doesn't make much of a difference...

Last time I checked out Florida 5.0, but they didnt really have anything that would really work on my car (seems like mostly race car stuff), but I should check again, and see if they have anything new.

Thanks for the offer, but my gauges are the 2 1/16 Phantom. Yay now I know they make a fuel gauge! Time to order

When I installed Autometers in my truck, I didn't want to cut things up. There was only enough room, however, for me to mount 2 of the four cleanly. This left me with few options, but I decided to go ahead and put the other two in an a-pillar pod. I must tell you, I absolutely love them there. In fact, I don't understand why the factory doesn't put gauges there. They are completely out of the way, yet are always in my vision.

Just sharing.

Take care,
-Chris

Default thats my custom

Sup everyone, Pats last post is of my car. i like the cd deck doen there for a couple of reasons. it lessens the glare adn in southern Cal theres alot of glare, its also nice beucase its closer to your shifter which makes it easyer access. if u want to know how i did it let me know. i still need to touch it up some and it will be perfect.

Wow! That's WONDERFULLY done! I wouldn't need to do all that because I prefer the 2 1/16 gauges, but how did you do it? It looks so smooth and blended I love it!

Patrick Boetticher, in the first pic with the guages near the speedo, is that your car? I wanted to know if the guages were visible with the steering wheel tilted all the way down. I have ordered that guage pod from summit, but it was on back order. Both of the pics look great though. Take it easy.

From my viewing position, I would not be able to view those bezel gauges, but I'm only like 5'5, even though I sit up pretty straight. I don't know why you ask...just sit as you would in your car, and LOOK at the mounting locations. You can answer your own question based on your own height.

Pats been busy so ill answer for him as well. im 6'2 and hes like 6'0 ft i think and we both can see them nicely on his car. well..... mine was harder to do and isnt really expensive if u do it right. we made it nice adn smooth with bondo (i think thats how its spelled) adn it HASNT CRAKED like everyone who saw it and knew how we did it said. it still needs to be touched up. then sparyed it black. i recomend taking out the AC vents adn then spraying it. if you mess up the center piece it will cost you about $100. i took a piece of plastic and made a template out of it for the guages to fit in. then glued it into place and bondo it to make it smooth. hope that gives u an idea on how to do it. good luck

I had mine fabricated.... it was CNC-machined out of ABS plastic. It just pops in and works great!

Thanks for the helpful response, I'm not about working with bondo, but thanks anyways. BTW, I bought that center piece off a 2001 for $20. You just have to know where to look .

Thanks for the pics, Rebel! Looks great I'm going to go the same route...I actually have a heap of black interior pieces laying around, and I'm going to fabricate my own this weekend. Hope it looks as good as yours! I'll post pics of the disaster when I finish
