View Full Version : Steeda pully install = oil leak?!!

I have recently had Steeda pullies installed in my 97 GT. I have since noticed an oil leak that seems to be centered around from the crankshaft pully. Anyone have this experience, or know the cause, and how to correct it. The oil isn't exactly gushing, but there is a definite loss as there are drips on the ground, and oil on the crank pully and especially on the water pump pully below it...

My mechanic is normally really good, and specializes in performance mods, but I thought that this was a no-brainer install with the correct tools.... I took all the precautions with prepping him, and even supplied Joe Lynch's great instructions to compliment the also provided Steeda ones.

I there any way I can view the "Joe Lynch" instructions, how did you get them?

Joe is often referenced for his instructions for many of the basic installs/mods. His name and instructions are often mentioned along with install fixes etc. since he documents (and updates) his procedures often to keep them accurate and complete. I thought that any other useful information would help during my install in the event that anything weird should come up, or if questions should arise.

I know the instructions are for a Cobra, but most of the basic info should be the same.

Thanks a lot for the link. My mechanic (hes a genious) installed my pulleys and they are working fine. I was just curious to view the instructions. I hope you find the cure for your problem.

I installed my pullies the other day, and in the instructions it says to put rtv in the slot that is on the crank pulley. To prevent any oil leaks.

My mechanic fixed the seal today. He used RTV again to really seal the keyway etc., and replaced the old crankshaft seal. It didn't look particularly bad, but there was a little nicking in a couple of places...Oh well, he bought the part, and did the job for free, (he is very honest, and up front.) I can't complain. He definitely has my loyalty, and has had it for years.

His name is Chip, and he runs his own shop in San Jose called C.G. Automotive. He specializes in performance work, although he has been servicing my wifes Nissan for the last five years. I cannot say anything bad about him. He's definitely doing my headswap. (He's putting together a quote tight now, in fact.) :D
