Question Help identify this emissions equipment...

Take a look at these two photos. In the first photo, item #1 is the remains of a broken vacuum hose. I don't know what it did, or why it broke, but it went to a valve that I was unable to get a picture of. The clamp holding this valve on can be seen as item #3, in photo 2.

Secondly, item #2 in both photos appears to be another valve of some sort, but I have no idea what it is or what it does. It isn't obvious in the picture, but where the rounded part of the valve thing meets that big nut, has completely detatched. Was it ever connected in the first place? I have no idea. The point is, there's no connection between the two. However, the tube/valve combo on the bottom appears to be intact. So my question to you, the MustangWorks community, is...what the hell is this crap?

I assume all three valves there are related to the AIR pump, but my service manual is incredibly vague (yes, I want to see pictures of the 2.3L Turbo as I try to disassemble part of the 5.0. That's incredibly helpful. ). The car runs fine now -- great, in fact -- but I'm trying to track down an annoying check engine light that seems to be related to my EGR system. Any help or information I can get would be great, but I have a feeling most of this stuff is beyond my ability to repair.

They appear to be parts of the pollution control...

If you don't have emission checks i wouldn't worry...

Well, I know it's not hurting anything, but I was kind of curious as to what that stuff was. I guess if a lot of parts need replacing, I could justify scrapping the whole thing.

The white hose (at 2:00) and the black hose (at 4:00) are for emissions smog pump lines. Dont know, cause I pulled them along with the smog pump when I installed the S-trim. THe black hose (at 10:00) still was [for now] hooked up, and is used to purge the evap canister (I think).

The #2 is the smog pump into the exhaust. You can disconnect it, but it may cause some codes(?) to appear. You can remove the smog pump, AND this #2, as theya re a team.
If you disconnect that big nut (forward to the pump) you need to plug the pipe (hose back) towards the exhaust. Its a one-way vavle and will make a drum-roll type sound at full throttle.
