Default How bad is this?

Ok I have a 94 GT with the AODE in it. The car is bone stock except for Flowmasters, the air silencer is still on it and the timing is factory set. The car is my daily driver while I finish building up my '83, thats why I haven't made any modifications (the Flowmasters were already on it) to the '94. The tranny has be rebuilt by the previous owner. If I lay into it it shifts slow like a luxury car but if I shift it myself it spins the tires.

My question is how bad is it for the tranny, when I shift it manually? I'm sure it can't be too good for it, but how bad is it? Should I stop doing it altogether?

I don't want to spend any money modding the car since I am putting all my efforts/resources into the 83.

I don't really understand why it shifts sluggishly in automatic and firm in manual, but manual shifting isn't going to hurt your tranny any more than letting it shift on its own. Do you know if the rebuild included a shift kit of sorts?

Reguardless, when you're racing, flip the OD switch off and shift it manually if that's what works best for you. It's not gonna hurt as long as you're not hitting overdrive under a heavy load.

Have fun with it!

Yeah I can't figure out why it does this either, but it does and nobody seems to know if its bad for it or not. As far as I know it was a stock rebuild, it had a new torque converter installed when the rebuild was done. I'm sure it was a stock converter to go along with the stock rebuild. Thanks though, I guess I will keep slamming them manually unless I hear something from people or the tranny itself. HAHAHA
