![]() I am currently using a 16 or 17 inch electric fan(BM). Its suppost to keep cool up to 260hp. As my sig shows I am above that mark. I took my car out last night and drove around town a bit w/the weather being about 60 degrees. Car ran about 240-255 degrees!!! I put EnginKool in it and it didnt work. I would really like to stay away from putting that big ol stock clutch fan back on. Does anyone know if one of those little black magic thin metal fans work very well??

![]() So I take it that this heating problem began DIRECTLY after you installed the electric fan? Any more details?

![]() Well to begin with this car was COMPLETLY stock besides K&N back in october. So I installed the fan along with all the other mods. So its been running hot now for a few weeks since i got it running and the fan is only suppost to cool up to 260hp with air and 225 without air. I got air cond. Its been running bout 230 approx 45-50 degrees outside. Then yesterday it warmed up a little more to bout 65-70 and that damn temp gauge went up to 260. Its really bad in stop and go driving. But open road at a constant rate of 60. No probs at all.

![]() Sounds like the electric fan is horribly overworked. Besides that, I see that you don't have a bigger radiator listed in your sig. Do you have a stock radiator still? If you do, there is no way it will keep a 347 cool. You need to get an aluminun 3 row and your troubles will be over. Good luck.

![]() I've got a thin metal (Auto Zone-type) fan and it works good enough.
I haven't dealt much w/ going from pulley fan to electric fan so my help is limited. The fan does its biggest contribution in cooling when the car is at lower speeds. So it doesn't seem like it has the cooling capacity it needs to keep the radiator cool enough in stop and go traffic. Maybe the electric fan isn't coming on when it should. Have you tried to crank it in your yard and let it run in 'park' for a while to see if it overheats b4 the fan comes on? If the temp shoots up and the electric fan doesn't come on, that would be a problem. This is all considering that it was doing fine b4 the switch to the electric fan. Just some thoughts. ------------------------------- '79 Mustang Coup 4" Cowl Weld wheels (15x6;15x8) Stock 5.8L C4 w/ shift kit 1 5/8" MAC shorty headers Holley 750 CFM Edelbrock Performer RPM intake 2.5" Off road H-pipe, 2-chamber Flowmasters 8.8" Rear end w/ 3.55 gears (Now that's more like it!!) ![]() Front: 225/60/15 Rear: 255/60/15 Eagle GT II 14 x 4” K&N air filter (getting the Xtreme setup soon) ![]() "Red, thou art my companion.
