![]() I am looking to buy a 5.0 5sp in the Sacramento area. I am going to look at one that has 83,000 original miles. The guy said that every once in a while it pops out of reverse. He replaced the clutch but it still happened every once in a while. He took it to a mechanic and was told that the clutch sinkers needed to be replaced. He is asking $3,000. My question is how hard would it be to replace the sinkers? And how much money would it cost?

![]() First, im assuming he meant to say the syncros, and you could probably do it yourself but personally im not a big fan of working on tranny's. As for the 3000 to fix it, you can buy a new Viper 6 spd for you car for that much. A super duty world class T5 is around 1200 american. So if hes gonna charge you 3000 just buy a new tranny.

![]() I'm gonna guess you meant the guy was asking $3000 for the car, and that sounds like a pretty good deal to me. If the car is in good shape, go for it. The synchros can be a pain, but you can get that trans rebuilt or buy another rebuilt for around $6-$800, if you look around. It's a little over a grand for a brand new heavy duty T5 (world class or Z).
