my car is throwing off the diagnostic code dtc5284, which i read was oil pressure switch failure. is this anything serious to worry about? how do i fix this?
thanks!

If your guage moves to normal when you crank the car, then it is working fine. The car will set that code if the engine runs for a few seconds with no oil pressure (Such as when you change the oil, and wait for the filter to prime, or hard cornering or accel/braking with low oil level.)

Just take it in and swap the oil pressure sensor. It's a $10 or less part. Not a big deal. My dad's '02 F-150 had this happen. The dealer said it was just a bad batch of sensors. If the O/P reading fluctuates any after start you've got a bad sensor.
