Default What years did the EEV-IV comp come in?

I have an 89 lx 5.0 and appearently have to replace the computer. I was just wondering what year mustang was a suitable donor for this as I will be getting a junkyard one cuz i can't afford a new one.

There is a code taped to each ECM. You want one with any of these codes, from best to worst:

A9L
A9P
A3M
X3Z

You could also use 8LD or 8LF, but make those a last resort.

Take care,
~Chris

Are these computers only in mustangs or can i find one in a different ford car. The junkyard i go to has many fords but only like 1 or 2 mustagns i believe. I don't think either of them were stick shift either if that makes a difference. I know that alot of marc viii stuff will go w/ the mustang, that doesn't have the same comp in it too does it? Really i guess the question im trying to ask is what kinda cars should i be looking at here or shouldi stick just to stangs?

You need to get one from a Mustang. You can also try buying a rebuilt at your local auto parts store. At least try calling. You have no guarrantee the one in the junk yard even works.

Take care,
~Chris

Okay, PKRWUD; there's someone on ebay right now selling an ECM out of a 89 5.0 lx 5 speed, mym exact car, only he says the code is a a9s. Why won't this work on my car or will it?

Supposedly, the A9S (1989 Mustang 5.0/5spd) and the A9T (1989 Mustang 5.0/auto) have not been able to be "cracked" yet by ECM chip programers. My understanding is that there are no chips available for them, and as of now, none can be made.

However, 3 days ago I got a new batch of updated catalogs in for my catalog rack, and one of them was from Hypertech, and they have a listing for an '89 5spd Mustang GT, so maybe it has been cracked. Then again, there were more than one code for that year and model ECM.

Bottom line is this: Go ahead and buy it, but keep in mind that it may be difficult getting a chip for it in the future.

Take care,
~Chris

How good is the power curve in an a9s? I mean if it means a tenth or two I'll hold out until I find an a9l computer cuz its got the best programming behind it.

I'm afraid I don't know them well enough to tell you. I do know that the '93 and newer ECM's are the ones to avoid. Ford made some drastic advance changes during shifting because of the pistons, and as a result, they have a noticeable lag right after each shift. But the difference between the A9S and the A9L is something I don't know. I kinda gotta figure there must be a reason the A9S hasn't been, or was only recently cracked.

Take care,
~Chris

Agent. all i know is 89 Federal computers are not the same as any other year. the only reason i know of is that 89 was the first year of MAF and no air bag and 90 and up had an airbag. i dont know if that will make a idifference at all. just thought i would share this with you. i was told 89-93 will work, but not sure.
