Angry Car is breaking up

Well, I just installed a Second Gen. PIH kit from Pro-M. I also installed an ignition from Holley. Well, I finally got it started and running, and it ran really well until I drove it around and got on it really hard to see how awesome the kit was. At about 4000 rpm's the car breaks up really badly. I does not do this in nuetral. What could the problem be? All suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have wires 5 & 6 completely separated?

PKRWUD, I think so, but I will check again. It never used to do this with the stock comp. Would the new ignition make it do this? Thanks.

95mustang, do you think that my Holley ignition could be bad? Thanks.

95mustang, so the only thing you did was change ignition systems? My car only breaks up above 4500 and not when it is in neutral. I don't understand why one would work and others won't. Thanks.

I forgot to ask, but what was the part # of the Crane that you got? Did it come with an adapter harness or not? And where did you buy it? Thanks for the help man.

I prefer the Crane HI-6 myself, but don't go spending any money until you know for sure what the problem is.

It is imperative that you have the spark plug wires that are going to cylinder #5 and #6 completely separated. They can't touch each other anywhere between the distributor cap and the plugs. Buy a cheap set of separators if necessary.

The MSD is putting out a stronger signal at higher rpms than your old system was, and since #5 & #6 are sequentially fired cylinders on the same bank, there is an excellent chance for a misfire condition if the wires are allowed to contact each other.

I'M NOT SAYING THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM, but it very well could be, and it's super simple to correct.

Take care,
~Chris

Chris, What is the difference between the HI-6 and the HI-6S and so on. I did check the wires and they were touching so I moved them, but the break down was still there, just at a higher rpm, 5000 instead of 4000. I also moved the ground wire to a better area, it was on the battery before. Chris have you heard anything about Holley ignitions. Just wondering. Thanks. Take it easy.

Dude, it is weird. I ran it hard this morning, and it didn't do it at all. I turned it off, and tried it again and it did it at like 4500. It seems like it gets worse as the box gets hotter. Did you notice the some problems? Thanks man. Take it easy.

So, it happened everytime to you no matter what? It is weird though. I unplgged the holley ignition and plugged my stock one back in and it couldn't get past 4000. Another thing I noticed when I ran it after turning my car off, was that it ran up to 4000 fine, started to break up and then ran fine past 5000. Really weird. Oh well. Thanks for your help man.

95mustang, you are a freaking GOD!!!!!! I can't believe the problem was the ignition though. I have one question, where did you mount yours, the wires are short as hell. Oh well, thanks again man. I would have never thought of that. Take it easy.
