Default Q about Pedistal Rockers fitting after Decking

I was trying to install some 1.7 pedistal mount roller rockers on my GT-40 heads. I was told by the guy that was helping me that the heads were decked to a strange size so I can't use the pedistal rockers. He said the small shims and too small and the large ones are too big. Could this be true?

That is true you need shorter push rods now to make up for the decking difference.
