Default Hard Stutter

Car:
1989 Mustang LX 5.0L, AOD tranny

Scenario:
Mustang stutters hard at certain throttle points or full throttle, check engine light will come on sometimes during this

Recent Changes:
Put a fender mount air intake on the car, the filter is NOT covered for rain and such as of yet

Driving Conditions today:
I'm in Colorado and the weather is the cold drizzle type rain

Question:
Is the moisture causing this problem? If so, a cover will resolve the issue, right?

Thanks,
Justin

My mom's 95 T-bird (4.6L with AODE) does the same thing doing into 4th and sometimes into 3rd. It usually does this when the tranny is cold. I trun OD off until the car warms up, then I put OD bck on. This seems to be the "quick fix". The reason why it does this to the T-bird is because the gears are slipping. We need to get the thing either rebuilt, or just get a new tranny. It sounds like you might have the same problem. Auto's are the only part of the car I'm not fimilar with.

Hey Cyberstang.
Thanks for the information. Maybe this is part of the problem, but I'm not too sure. This is not happening when it's trying to shift, but when it's already in gear. It appears at certain throttle points or at full throttle when it's already in a gear. :\ Also, this is still occurring with OD on or off, and after the car is warm. Hmm. I think I will have to wait until the weather clears more to test out other suggestions.

The T-bird will shutter mostly going into the next gear, but it will also do it while crusing (45 mph or more) or during acceleration (like to pass some slow ricer). I would like to get a new tranny for it and trick it out a little more

Turns out this is a simple issue. I have the fender mounted air intake, when it's damp outside the car will stutter every so often. It's just sucking in moisture. I'll throw a shield around the filter location and the problem should be resolved.

Thanks.
