![]() not the boost refrence MSD knob the one for NA motor set ups.. I was thinking when I spray my car instead of poppin the hood & bustin out the timing light I would twist the knob.. my buddy has one on his EFI car and it works ok for him.. plus I could turn the knob back to start it too right.. what about Top End say pull timing out of the engine with a twist of the knob??
Just an Idea BTW my car is Carb'ed

![]() Instead of using the rheostat, just install a timing retard module from MSD. It has a start retard function built in, plus three progressive timing retard settings (uses the chips). When I activate my converter lockup in third gear, I have it pull some timing from the motor. Stick guys could easily put a little microswitch on the shifter so when they hit fourth gear it does the same thing. Pulling a few degrees of timing at the big end does help.

![]() I have this installed in addition to my MSD ignition box. There is four stages you can preset and activate with the flip of a switch. You can also set the prestart setting. I think this is better because when your racing, you don't have time to trun a knob to the exact line you desire. With this, all you do it hit a switch and you get the timing you want always. I set my distrubitor at 18deg and retart it down from there. This way, I don't have to use a timing light all the time just to tune it.

![]() I like the reostat, I have had mine for 5 years. And for every reason you think. Also it helps straiten the idle from time to time.

![]() Trial and error. The amount that I pull out in lockup varies from 0 to 4 degrees, depending on track and weather conditions. Its an old racer's trick, but it works. On my combination I'd say its worth about 1.5mph and .02-.03 in the quarter.
