Default Will extra oil hurt?

I changed the oil in my '88 today and after I filled it with oil I noticed the dip stick said I had about 1 qt. too many.
See what happed was, I bougt a 5qt. container last night at Wal-Mart and assumed I could pout the whole thing in since it was 5qts.
I still don't know how it happened but should I drain some out or is it ok?
Next time I'm just buying 5 individual qts. like I always do!!
