I'm probably going to be buying a 1996 mustang GT soon...
One thing is it's been basically sitting in a garage for about a year and a half....
Any special problems from that I should look out for or check?

Everyone else will probably give you the real good advice. I'll just give you a couple simple things...

1) Look underneath where the car is parked. If there are large oil stains, you may want to be concerned.

2) does the car start? does it run? can you drive it?

I'll leave the really good advice to the experts. ;)

In all seriousness, just looking underneath the car and making sure there aren't any major leaks is a good thing, assuming it hasn't been moved at all. It's not something you would necessarily think of.

Check for fluid leaks and of course fluid levels. Find out the real story why the car has sat for over a year. Check the tires for flat spots when it is moved, you may need new tires! Check for any hidden damage and take it to a mech or dealer to have a computer diagnostics run on it. It is worth the money to find out if it is capoot! Sometimes you just run ito a great deal, hope this is one of them. What are you paying for it? If it's real low and the car runs and drives you can't go wrong:p

Look at the intake. These had problems with it cracking. See if the intake looks newer than the engine, or any signs that it might have been replaced...

Could be good or bad, bad if it hasn't been replaced cause it could be a time bomb waiting to go off.

or, it could be that the person ran the h3ll out of it and blew it, then drove home with no water and caused it to overheat..

only thing I know of...
