View Full Version : Need to replace intake manifold... what to do...?

I noticed this weekend some coolant on my engine...

The first thing I thought of was the intake recall... I don't have the new and improved intake and honestly, I doubt Ford is going to take care of this... But let's not argue whether are not Ford will fix this for free...

Let's say I have to fix this myself...

Eventually I plan on doing the head swap but for now what do I do? My car doesn't seem to suffer at this point... Is it going to get worse? How quickly?

Is there a new intake that will work well for my car but that I can use later when I swap heads or am I going to have to change intakes again? If I have to change intakes again when I do the heads (which will be a year or two from now) I won't care too much if the intake isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg.

What should I get and from where?

Any other suggestions are welcome...

First let me say, yes Ford will take care of that for you, no questions asked.

Now then, you're screwed on intake manifolds. There's the Bullitt aluminum one, Saleen has one, and that's about it. They're both in the neighborhood of $1,800. It's because of their shape that it's so expensive for people to make them.

The best plan would be to get the Motorsport intake and heads, and get the heads ported. That'd cost probably three grand to do, so go get lucky at the craps table after work.

Other than that, call the Ford dealer and make sure they'll take care of it for you, then save your $.

I don't know if you're right about that Deuce... when my intake went, the dealership would not fix it under the recall. I fought tooth and nail, but they told me that the recall only included the 96-97 vehicles and not the 98... (even though I think the intake part numbers were exactly the same...)

It was a losing battle and I just went with the Motorsport setup...

As far as which way to go. The cheaper route would be to just replace it with another stock intake....

I would shell out the extra bucks and get the motorsport piece...

When funds permit, add the heads... and YEEHAA!!!

(Another option is the intake\roots blower combo..... replace the intake AND get a kick in the pants...)
