![]() As I've said before, I'm not only new to owning a mustang but also new to fixing cars, so I'm hoping the explanation is ok....
I noticed today, now that is actually a little warm here for a couple of days, that my heater/ac blower doesn't seem to do anything in the second and third position. Fourth position (the hightest) blows like heck, heat is hot and AC is cold, but the second and third do the same as the first position does...not much. Any thoughts on what this might be? |

![]() msunickb,
Your "Resistor Pack" which controls the fan blower motor is burned out. The blower motor only has one speed (high) and to control the speed, there are a series of resistors that reduce current to the blower motor depending on where the selector switch is set. When the Resistor Pack burns out, you're left with one speed - "HIGH" I'm not sure where the Resistors are in your car but usually, they're found somewhere in the heating/cooling ductwork. Go to a Ford dealer and have them look it up on MicroFiche, they can even print it for you and it'll show you exactly where the part is located. I replaced one recently on a Grand Marquis, I think it's about a $30 part! Phil ![]() |

![]() Great! It looks like it should be pretty easy to change be we'll see. If anyone has any advice for changing a mustang resistor pack I'd love it. Otherwise...I'll stop by Ford and see what they can tell me.

![]() Well, that is exactly what it ended up being, the blower resistor. So with the fine advice I got I actually was able to replace it myself and the part was only $10.44 from a local Ford dealer.
Thanks so much for the help. |

![]() Nick,
I'm glad it was so easy (and cheap) to fix.... By the way, where is it located? Someone told me you have to remove the glove-box to gain access. Phil |

![]() It is directly behind the glove box, but you don't have to remove it. The side of the glove box are pretty bendable so I just squeezed the sides together and opened it all the way up. It ends up hanging pretty much upside down. Directly behind that is where its located.
