what would be the best intake to get for a fairly stock(no heads, cam etc) 5.0 HO??
i was looking at either the holley systemax intake, the TFS R-series or the edelbrock performer rpm.
does anyone know what intake would be best for me or any other intakes anyone knows about?
thanks a lot

Those intakes are too much for a stock headed engine. If you really want an intake, even though it wont do much for you on a stock motor, go with a cobra or gt-40, or maybe a edelbrock performer.

The Cobra/Explorer are the best stock match up E7 head. Used Cobra go for about $250 and Explorers can be found for about $150 - but get a 95-early 97 Explorer intake with the internal EGR if you have to keep smog stuff.
If you can't find those, I port the stock lower for $100 labor and ~$30 round trip shipping (or $150 outright with core refund) and will add ~15+HP to a stock engine. I have dynos, references, etc if your interested. click on the "pm" button under my reply and send me an e-mail for details.

I'm holding off for the RPM II. :D I almost bought a cobra intake yeaterday for $399 brand new, but I decided against it. Its a good intake, just not exactly what I wanted.

The Holley, TFS R, RPM, RPM II, Are all too much for a stock head stang. Your best bet would be a Cobra/GT-40(same thing), TFS Street, or Performer.

i saw some dyno #'s and the best intake for stock heads lloked like the elderbrock 5.0 performer flowed by the gt-40/cobra

When I had my stock motor, I ran the Edelbrock Performer 5.0 upper and lower intake. I spanked WS6's, SS's and blown Lightnings. :D

Did you also have your stockheads, cam, TB,??? Sorry, but if it was all stock, except for the intake. I find this very hard to believe. An intake does not ad that much HP. Lets be realistic. You are saying that you beat 300+RWHP cars, on just an intake. Now you got this guy thinking, he can do it on just an intake.

Not just an intake.... I had a few other goodies :D
I had CAI, 75mm ProM MAF, 65mm TB and EGR spacer, upper and lower intake, stock heads, 1 5/8" shorty headers, H-pipe, 2 chamber MAC, 24lb injectors, AFPR, 190lph fuel pump, 3.73 gears, underdrive pullies, and a whole bunch of suspension stuff....
No, if you add JUST an intake, you will not beat an LS1 motor. You have to have a few more stuff to back it up... ;)

The Stock E7 head flows 160cfm @ .50" lift and the stock cam only lifts to just shigh of .45", so any intake flowing over 200cfm is not the ideal match to these heads. The larger the runner you put on a stock E7 head, the more velocity you loose and it will show up in a loss of low/mid range torque and unless you have the cam to gain it back on the top end (not the stocker!) you're not gonna make the best possible torque/power - you need to match the intake/head/cam package. The Cobra family intakes and starter aftermarket intakes all flow more than 200cfm. Not that their a bad choice, just not the optimum choice.
