Angry No...I CANT DANCE!

Okay...Mercury is being Negative today. I have another minor quival to vent. Hopefully some of you all can shed some light, or possibly comfort one another from our lack of ability to Get Down and Get Funky.

Okay.. Here it goes. To put it mildly, I have about as much rythm as a Parapalegic, Chimp, having and epaleptic fit. Which translates into Nill, Zero, None.

As a matter of fact, Steve Martin in the movie "The Jerk" has more rythm and dancing ability than I.

So, Why is it that Every Girl I meet, First thing they ask is..."Can You Dance?" or "Do you Like Dancing?"....The Answer is NO andNO

Nope, they dont ask "Are you seeing anyone?", or "Are you Single?" and "You here with anyone?" Not "Are you doing anything tonight" not even "Hey, Whats your Sign?"

When I tell them No...Which I do so Calm and smoothly (How else could I respond...After all I'm nothing but Calm and smooth.. YEah...I'm bieng sarcastic) They Leave, or loose total intrest.

I even tried to get one back by telling them "No, but I work on making cars fast, and race them." Do You know What she said then?????? Thats Nice, But you dont Dance... Argh.....

Maybe me and my friends should break out in some kind of River Dance Routine next time the girls asks.

It will go something like this.
Noticing a girl checking me out, I walk over and attempt casual conversation (thats a laugh...).
Girl: "Do you Dance"
Mercury: With a look of surprise..He points to his chest and replys with a ring of amazement in his Voice ..Do I dance?
Girl: "Yeah, Do you dance, or like to dance?"
Mercury: Repeats while still pointing at himself with both hands "Do I Like TO DANCE....* Pause* I Love to Dance..Watch these and eat your heart out"

Mercury: Snaps fingers and jumps back...Out of Nowhere Two friends jump on each side of me. In a Row, We kick our feet up and start tapping our feet and flailing them about in a mad Frenzy. Behold the Powers of RIVER DANCE.

Seriously Though...What is it about dancing? The more girls that ask me, the more I hate it. I'd love to be able to dance, but it would be like Swing and 50's stuff, and that would just get me laughed out of any place.

Why dont they come up and say..."Hey, You like Racing?" or "Hey, you like Playing Paintball" Or Starring at the stars, or playing video games, or writting, or drawing, or physics, or reading, or working on cars, or picking my nose and scratching my azz?

Does anyone have the answer to this question? Any light shed on it would help.

Talking

ROFL

Man. You're too much Hg.

I've never cared for dancing at all unless it was just a joking around thing. Total waste of time in my book (just about the same as jewelry ). I can understand the concept of slow dancing with a girl, but there are always other ways. Also, it seems like the girls you go after eat and poop superficiality. If any girl sticks up her nose at me b/c I make a comment that I don't dance, SCREW her! (......c'mon, you know what I mean.... ). I'd be up for the River Dance routine, though .

See that's one thing I really like about the ladies who are (or were) here at MW. They are open-minded, above-average women who for the most part know how to appreciate a well made automobile and aren't deathly afraid to get a little grease on their hands.

Hey how bout this, next girl you go up to and start a "casual conversation", ask her ..."Hey, You like Racing?" or "Hey, you like Playing Paintball" Or Starring at the stars, or playing video games, or writting, or drawing, or physics, or reading, or working on cars, or picking your nose and scratching your azz?"

....make sure you tell us how that goes I actually know a girl or 2 that i'm sure would be touched by that if it were out of sincerity.

I had sisters growing up. They danced since they could walk. Them, their friends. Later in Girl Scouts they danced. Then cheerleading. On and on. Me and my friends, we didn't dance, give me a break!

Now I see my daughter and her friends, same thing. My son doesn't dance.

Chicks just seem to like it.

But just think if you could learn, just something simple. Just enough not to make a fool of yourself. Supply and demand. The one guy in the room who could say "I can dance".

Just imagine the possibilities...

The Strange thing is, this is like the third girl to tell me that, and its out of nowhere. Not even at a club or anything (I dont go to clubs..Another thing I dont do). At Wal-Mart, at the Hooters Parking Lot (Where I hang out at now) or Block Busters.

I dont even think I look like the type that could dance.

Also, how come people laugh at me, especially girls when I tell them what kind of music I like... Hey, they asked so I tell them, 50's, 60's and Classical.

To many shallow girls around here. Hell, just to many shallow people around these parts. Is it like that everywhere else?

Mercury,

I'm with you on this one 110%, pal! Amen to that!

My wife is not one to go out to bars and dance halls, but on occasion, she wants to dance at weddings, etc. Now I hate the "sweat dancing," or just floppin' around to the lastest dance-mix-80's-hits. That's not dancing. I refuse to do that. Why do you need a girl to do that? So my answer to her is the same. I tell her that if she wants to dance, I'll go with her to dance lessons. Two-step, waltz, swing, whatever.

This worked a while back, for we took two-step, foxtrot, waltz, cha-cha and rumba. Let me tell you, rythm comes with practice, and it was very fun. However, good luck finding a place to cha-cha! Try that at the local college hang-out and you might get beat up! lol!

We've dropped lessons many years ago, but it was fun for her (and me!), and demanding lessons seemed to stop her from bugging me to dance. That's meeting her half way.

I know this doesn't help for the single scene.

Try this, instead. In my experience, "real" women are impressed with men who can cook, not dance. Follow up your "no me dance," with: "but I can prepare a killer wilted caesar salad, feta cheese and crab stuffed pork loin, and garlic-buttered broiled asperagus tips." Now that'll impress the ladies!!

If you can't really deliver on this boast, LIE, and figure out a way to deliver. She'll forgive you later!

Good luck!

Dont feel bad man I cant dance either.

What makes it bad is my girlfriend is a great dancer.

I just go to clubs with strobe lights. Makes us all look like good dancers.

I love dancing. I dance Salsa every friday with my fiancee. I took some ballroom dance lessons and within a year I was able to dance Salsa, Merengue, Tango, Two Step, Waltz, Hustle, Samba, Rumba, Bolero, Cha Cha and Swing.

Give it a shot! It's lots of fun and a great way to meet new people. Plus if you dance at a ballroom instead of a club you pretty much get a more 'normal' group of people instead of the usual meat market club go-ers

Don't feel bad. Dancing is the only think I do worse than playing golf. My golf game is horrible and if I attempt dancing I look like a big hunk of jello wiggling on a plate. However, I like beach music and would love to take shag lessons someday since the shag is the official dance of my home state.

Yes.

For all of you guys that don't dance, what did you do in college? IMO, the best part about college was going to the parties and
dancing with all of the women there. Hell, sometimes I'd be leaving and try to get around a girl....I'd put my arm around her waist to kind of squeeze by and she'd turn around and start dancing with me. As Sicy stated, dancing can be quite fun!

Smile I won't dance, don't ask me

Mercury:

Don't feel bad, I don't dance either and while it hampered me a little bit when I was single, it wasn't a huge deal. I made it clear to whomever I was dating that I didn't do the the club scene and if a wedding reception (or something requiring dancing) was in the offing, I would be glad to go but they would have to find another dance partner. Had a few uncomfortable scenes where a girl tried to 'force' me onto the floor to 'dance' but only once or twice - and I was always able to get out of it gracefully, using humor. My wife dances quite well and when we were dating she was disappointed that I didn't dance (or want to) but she finally gave up on me after a few years and now she dances with girlfriends or some trusted male friend when a 'dance situation' occurs (usually at a friend's wedding). This works for us and my total lack of dancing ability is now sort of a family joke, which is fine with me as it keeps me from being expected to dance.

Shallow people, especially single young women, are everywhere. Finding an honest, down-to-earth girl who respects a guy for what he is and not how he looks or how much he has in the bank is a full-time job but if you're willing to forego the Brittany Spears wannabe's and look more for substance and soul than boob size and how short her skirt is, they are out there, looking for a guy who will respect them and love them for who they are, not for the superficial stuff too many guys and gals make a priority. That doesn't mean you have to look for nerds or homely girls, just look beyond the superficial and the sexual (at first) and try to find a woman who has some substance and isn't primarily focused on her physical image and your pay rate. These kinds of girls do exist - but few are ever found in bars and clubs, as you know. I found mine (gentle, feminine, intelligent, not a shred of vanity and totally in love with me) and once I did I never looked back. I wish the same happens to you.

Thank you everyone. I feel a little better knowing that many other males are in the same boat. Dancing Just isnt fun for me. Like for some people, racing, reading, drawing, writting, or playing paintball isnt all that fun.

As for the cooking thing. I love to cook, but I suck at it. I still do it though. My family goes as far to hide all of my ingredents (I try making asian food). It might smell like crap, but it usually....well...sometimes tastes good.

MR 5.0

You have probably heard me complain about relationship probs, girl probs, more than anyone here. Thank you for all your patience, and advice. One of these days I may actually find the women that I'm looking for. Just as long as there not crazy like most of the others I've met

Stang Crazy.

I went to college for six years. A communtiy college. 3 two year degrees then some.

What I did was Learn to Race, Learn to work on cars, toss back a few beers every now and then with friends, met quite a few girls whom I dated later on, went out and shoot a bunch of pool, and worked.

I guess that's why my college experience was considerably shorter than yours. Still fun though

Sounds like the white-man's disease... lol I can't dance at all either. Love listening to music, but that's as far as it goes. I hardly ever get asked if I can dance, but when I do, I said with enough alcohol in me, I can do anything. lol That usually gets me somewhere... lol

A Little Achol in me goes along way....Dont even ask what screwed up things I did when I got trashed at Ruby Tuesdays in Fuquay Varinia a month ago during my vacation.

I was Toast. But I was also KungFu Master, Batman, GQ, and Benny Hill all in one. Then I was Yard ornament at my friends house. Man did I pay for it the next day.

Oh, and when drunk, never call your girlfriend...It never turns out good.
