Default Please help me out, everything is going wrong

Alright as some of you know I got my car back finnaly a few days ago. It does not run correctly and I would like for any help at all to try and find out what exactly is wrong. I bought the distributor and ignition from a place called total performance over in detroit. Ford racing told me to go with the guy. He had rounded up all the remaining motorcraft ignition kits for the 5.0 and I was told it would be best for my car. "before I was gunna go with a really nice MSD system but was told to do this. It has been a nightmare. The thing looked used when It came to my house, and it does not put out enough spark. We thought it might have been the fireing order but both ways were tried and that was not the problem. Also the spark plugs are black as night and I was told by someone on here it might be because of the B-303 cam. Why would this be ? Please help

(1) the ignition/distributor does not put out even as much spark as my old one in it.

(2) spark plugs are black, is it because of B cam ?

Default Duraspark

The Ford Duraspark ignition setup is very reliable and should easily meet the needs of your combo.
Did you foul your plugs? I am sure you have set your timing correctly.
It is tougher b/c you have no computer (I assume) managing your fuel curve. Is it possible you are running rich? I need to see your sig some more too...hold on
You don't have a TFI distro do you? I am sure you don't but you didn't specify. Have to think about this some more...
I think the b-cam has a EFI recommendation but I am checking that now.

It was running a little rich and hopefully that was the reason for the spark plugs being black. But also the idle got stuck up pretty high and that is the reason I even brought it back to my machanic. It just seems like the motorcraft distributor was not sparkin as hot as even my old off the name brand dist. Any new adeas ? its a duraspark ignition I beleave.

and where do i go to edit my sig ?

I ran my 85 capri for years with a B cam and 1.7 rockers on a 89 block with stock ported heads. It was fun. But anyways it had an MSD dist with the MSD 6AL box and coil and a holley 650 double pumper. It ran great and I even think it started better than the 93 I have now. In fact I even ran a predator carb for a couple months. So as far as the cam being an issure dought it. Sorry to say but the duraspark ign system has a high failure rate. I had ummm 3 duraspark ign modules in the trunk before I switched to MSD just in case. As far as spark output. It all comes from the coil. Opening up the plug gap makes for more voltage out of the coil. Save up for an MSD setup or something similar. If you do go with the MSD dist make sure you swap out the drive gear because of the cam. Hope this helps.

Do you think the distrib and coil should be cool with the new msd 6al ignition ?
