84 capri not starting

My buddies capri only has a rapid rattle when you turn the key. He just got a brand new battery and alternator put in. We're pretty sure its the starter cylinoid but what else could it be? This is kind of a dumb question but we're both novices. thanks.

Starter or the starter solinoid are the two most logical suspects.

also check all the battery cables and grounds. This is a common source too.
