Default Min Octane for 1999 GT recommended by Ford

Hi everyone! I don't own a Mustang myself yet (looking into the 05 ) but one of my best friends recently got himself a 99 GT about 3 months ago.

Anyways as you all know gas hasn't been cheap lately and V8s are not kind on fuel mileage.

He has been using Octane 93 on it so far but we were wondering what Ford actually suggests to use for his car? Can regular (87 octane) be used on his car?

Thanks in advanced!
