Default I was offered a trade for my '82....what do you think?

I was offered a 1988 LX vert for my '82GT. I don't think I want to do it because I would be giving up a lot.
The vert is bone stock with about 100K miles and an automatic tranny. The only thing it has going for it is the pony wheels.
It's white with a black top and body is in pretty good shape.

I've been considering trading/selling it since it will never get past the new emission laws.
What should I do? Look for something else to trade it for or keep it and keep looking for someone to "sell" me an inspection sticker?
I just don't think a heavily modded stang is worth trading for a bone stock one...at least not that old a car.

KEEP THE 82!! Their is not many four eyes running aroung in good condition. Plus I like the nose of the 82 GT. Check out my buddies 79. It now has 98 Cobra's on it. Let this be a lesson for old foxes.

That's sweet!! I'm still kicking myself for getting rid of my '82 hood. I have a fiberglass lift-off hood that I would trade back for my stock hood any day!!

Here is a pic of mine

Brian, if you sell that car, you're gonna make me have to drive all the way up to PA, just to bonk you on the head.

NO, don't give up just yet. I figure it can be annoying trying to work out all the emissions crap, but especially in this case, that LX is definitely not a worth trade.

Jamal , I think you're right about the LX but look what I was just offered a few min. ago.

It's has pullies, 3:73 gears, Eibach lowering springs, flowmaster exhaust, 73MM mass air meter, shorties, B- cam, FMS upper/lower control arms and 5 star rims(not in picture) and will pass Pa. emissions!!

Yeah, well, this next car is a little more tempting, but I personally wouldn't be bothered with it, especially since I had 2 other cars to drive around with.

You do have daily drivers, right? So, I don't know all the crap you've gone through trying to work out those legal issues with the '82 (except for what you posted at MW), but I would think it'd be worth more effort to get it worked out in one way or another since you've put so much work into the '82. One thing I've learned in life is that 99% of the time, there's a way to work something out.

Now, if you really kinda would like to build a newer car like that LX you showed, then, maybe that's something to look into, but not JUST for the reason that you are tired of working it out for the '82...

I know what your're saying foxbody , and I tend to agree with you. Here I was thinking "Cool...this this beast is finished and now when spring comes I can go raise hell!" only to find out that the D.O.T had other plans.
Yeah, I could get it street legal but that's going to involve installing cats, serpentine pulley system(so I can hook up a stupid smog pump), and find a way to install an EGR valve.
Oh, and I would need to buy a reverse flow water pump to go with that serpentine belt system....Oh boy!!....lot's of fun!!!
That's just what I wanted to do....tear down the front half of a brand new engine.....yipeeeeeeeee!!
Do you get an idea of what my mind set is right about now? Can you see why I would want to trade/sell it right about now?

I don't know...I know I just can't have a car that's useless just setting around.
I'll see what happens I guesss.

yeah, I get what your saying, 82 GT. I know it's frustrating.

But the belt and water pump isn't all that bad (I know you're probably just tired of fooling with it though). After you do it and add the smog pump (which you can just remove after you get the emissions inspection) it'll probably seem like not all that bad. I waited to change my rear main seal in the '79 for about 4 months and it just SAT there in my yard in the mean time. I finally got my lazy behind out there under it and finished it up and that SAME STINKING WEEKEND, the release bearing died on the '92 GT. Transmission isn't really something I like messing with (I've pulled a heavy handful of them over the years), now if I had a lift or a decent floor jack (both of which I don't have-- so I gotta jack up the car in stages... ), maybe, but still don't like fooling around under there. And here I had to pull the '92's tranny now. But after doing both in the same week period, it wasn't all that bad after it was all done, looking back. If I have to do it again, I'll have a better attitude about it-- and it GOT DONE.

Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do until you can do better. If that means keeping the '82, then do it. If it means selling it, then with regret, do it (all depends on how much you are attached to THAT car). But once again, I still think there's gotta be some way around the bureacratic bull (yes, even legally) if you dig deep enough, but hey , I could be wrong. Hope it works out for you, man.

You can get it smogged. Just find the right place. Koreans can be your friends too, but you did not hear it from me.

Go to the right automotive shops, and if you offer up the right amount of money at the right shop you can get it smogged.
In my case it was Koreans who made it possible (The shop owners)

I'm sure you heard of people having cars smogeed illegaly.

I would LOVE to know where shops like that are in Pa.....just ABSOLUTELY love to know where!!
Believe me......I'm trying like hell to find a place like that. I'm about ready to go to the junk yard and scrape a good one off an old car pretty soon.
