![]() I checked the plugs on my 66 yesterday, due to it sounding like it had fouled one. The nubmber 5 plug was not only oil fouled, but had small metal chips in it with no damage to the actual plug. I did a compression check on that cyl, along w/ no 6, and it only showed 50lbs on #5, and 120 on 6. Any ideas on what let loose? I reinderted the plug after cleaning, and it was immediatly covered in oil again.
Help!

![]() I would say one of your rings let go. Either that or you got something in there and you have a big gouge in your cylinder wall. If your valves had let go, there wouldn't be oil, and you would have 0 compression.

![]() I think Nitrostanggirl has u in the right direction, even though that is not what u want to hear...sorry dude. Have u drained the oil and looked at it, looked to see if there was any metal in the pan? One of the guys on here wrote a great post on vacuum tests (which I copied into a diagnosis folder), but I can not remember who posted it so I can give credit where it is due. In that post, I am under the impression the vacuum test will help tell if it is rings or not, but I am not sure if it tells u all your rings are bad...or can help tell if just cylinder #5 is bad.
How many miles are on the engine? Ryan

![]() Thanks for the replys, sorry about taking so long to reply, but we dont have net access yet, so I'm on a comp at the library
![]() Ryan, could you possibly pm me that vacum test info anyway? I think I read the same bit, but cant remember the particulars. I kinda expect it'll be the rings, would that account for the loud ticking too? Whats a ring job cost anyway? Well, now I have to get her towed to our new place, where I wont be able to work on her. But on the good side, I guess it gives me an excuse to start saving toward that 351,lol. Thanks, J BTW, the motor is pushing 60k, and was running strong. I dont think it had rolled over, but I could be wrong.
