yesterday i bought a black 98 cobra with 53,000 miles on it. Everything is mint on this car. The only mods are a CAI, O/R h-pipe, flowmasters, and black tailpipes that Ill probably switch out for chrome. Sorry to brag but this thing is amazing...going from my previous 92 LX 5.0 is huge. The LX for some reason would only run high 15's. My friend with a 2002 GT who ran a 13.75 said that my car will smoke him (saving it for the track). So Im into the modular world now instead of windsor. I dont know much about the 4.6's, especially the DOHC cobra. So can any of you give me an idea of what kind of power I have? horsepower, torque, 1/4 times, 0-60? Thanks a lot in advance.

and like 310tq

as for 1/4 mile times the fastest I have seen one go mostly stock was a 13.6

ya the horse power is 305 hp, 300tq. thats what ford rated em neways. stock u could exepect newhere from low 14's to high 13's depending on conditions an ur driving skills ;). once ur ready to run some serious times get urself a gear an some stickys! best of luck

I say drivers race but with the right driver in the GT(not saying you not) would show the cobra some tail lights

To tell you the truth if the Cobra has stock gears I think the GT will have the advantage.
My car has similar bolt-ons to your GT (also have Al flywheel, spec stage II clutch, Al driveshaft and some weight reduction) and I can pull on '99-'01 Cobras even from a roll (which are a bit faster than '96-'98s) until I have to go to 5th gear.
So with 4.10s and bolt-ons in the GT if you get a good launch I don't think he can catch you.

just ran 4.6litreGT at gateway. He beat me every time. His best was a 13.89 i think, my best was a 14.3. Not trying to make excuses, but it was probably because of my horrible driving and the fact that it was like 90 degrees today. Also, my car has a pretty bad exhaust leak where the h-pipe meets the manifold. Could this cause a significant loss of power? The dealership is fixing it soon but i was just curious. thanks.

What were your 60-ft times and trap speeds?

i did 14.2 in Miami (always very hot) with my car stock...and it's an auto

my reaction times and 60 fts. were really really bad. The 14.3 I ran had the best of both. .228 R/T and 2.221 60ft. I told you im a bad driver. O well, Ill get better with practice.

14.3 isnt bad for ur 1st time out with it. dont feel bad. i've been drag racing for some time an i only got my stock 96 cobra to go 14.0 @ 102.

because the 4 valve is high rever, they like steep gear ratios, minamum of 4.10's-4.56. but be warned that once u do this it will trick out the computer... according to pauls highperformance. so u will need a chip burned to get the full advantage. i just found all this out recenty when i geared my cobra... but anyways, a gear an traction could put u in the 12's if u can shift the car like u stole it!

I was talking to a guy at Infineon yesterday who had a '96 Cobra. His was all stock except for 3.73s and he was pulling 13.7-13.8 with crappy 2.2 60-fts. He said he was definitely going to swap in some steeper gears.
I ran a 13.7@101 (13.5@102 corrected for density altitude) in my GT with a 2.1 60-ft. My roadrace suspension kills me on the launch.

i just found out that i DO have 4.10s. i guess im just that bad of a driver. where should i be shifting? what else should i be doing that im not?

im gettin a short throw shifter this weekend so hopefully that will help alot. and next week at the track i hope it will be under 90 degrees.

anyone know the altitude conversion for st. louis?

u got 4.10s ehh.. well in theory u should make ur buddy see ur tailights, but practice makes perfect. u should be shifting around 6500 with that cobra. where are u shifting at right now?

an remember what i said bout the chip.. thats very likely the problem

stanger9219

I was shifting at 6800 (red line) Where can i get the chip for the computer to recognize the 4.10's? and how much do they go for? Also, he got the jump on me every time and all i did was spin the tires.

well lack of traction definetly is hurting you an will no doubt cost u the race. but as far as chips go i would contact Paul's highperformance, there the one the biggest modular speedshops in the country. u tell him what modifcations u have an he custom burns u a chip an sends it to u. i think its around $400. Or if u have any good speedshops in ur area they can do pretty much the same thing.

Your timeslip should have the weather conditions on it. You can enter those into an online calculator to correct for density alitude. If it was really hot when you guys ran your corrected times should be a couple tenths better.
I forgot how much fun it is running at the track. I'm half-tempted to buy some soft coilovers (easy to swap out and I have adjustable damping) and fats and skinnies with slicks and yank the front sway to try to hit 12s. If I get my 60-ft down to 1.8 and the weather is decent I should be real close based on my run the other day.

Look into getting the diablosport Predator. It will allow you to adjust for the gears plus bump timing and help you get alittle more HP. I am very surprised you did not beat him. My stock 01 Cobra pulled on a 2000 Supercharged Saleen S-281. As far as when to shift your best bet is to get your car dynoed and then look at the graph and decide. Mine is around 6500 rpms for best shifting.
