Post Whast wrong with this CAR?!

So my cousin and I ran our cars over the weekend at carlsbad. My car ran consistant 12.5's on the motor. Couldn't get it to run any faster no matter what I tried.

Anyways, his car is a 68 Coupe.
It has a brand new 5.0L motor with GT40Y Aluminum heads, E-303 cam, edelbrock 289 intake with a holley 600 vacume carb.

Long tubes with 2" exhaust and H-pipe. IT has a T5-Z spec tranny with 3.08's on skinny tires.

It has full ignition, and a great fuel system with regulator.

Hes the results....

2.5 60'
6.4 330'
9.5 1/8th
79.15mph 8th
14.669 1/4 ET
84.87 mph 1/4 MPH

Help

give some thought to swapping the 3.08 gears for something a bit lower(3.73 or 4.11) ,open those headers and go tear up the track.

is 84mph right in the 1/4 after being at 79 in the 1/8th? 2in pipe is to small..bigger carb maybe...is it a torker? might be better of with a performer RPM...
the 60ft's suck, but that wont affect the MPH, and he's losing alot on the top end..
is it a mechanical or electric pump?

Question

Does that Mustang hook with the skinny tires? Get some decent rubber and throw in some 3.73 gears!

It was 94mph. Oh well, i guess its a combo of the tiny exhaust, and bad gears. Still I was thinking about 100mph with the way the car felt.

Read my post in SRC about the n20

Cool

the gears wont affect the MPH though.. which will tell you the HP... and that seems way low.. I was hitting 96mph with a bone stock 95 5.0 in my convert.... altitude and heat maybe?

Exactly. Were at 200 feet above sea level and it was a nice 75 degrees out.

I'd either put a fuel pressure guage on it or shut it off after a run and pull the plugs to see if it's running lean... and try running the tall yellow spring to open the secondaries... might look into a conversion to run jets instead of the plate on the secondaries... they're only about $30 or so.. worth it if you want to tune the jetting..

Dump the POS 289 intake and 600 Carb. Slap on a RPM or my personal preference a Stealth and a 650dbl pumper. I ran that 289 manifold before and it sucked. Just adding the stealth woke my car up.

also add 3:73's and your there

Skyman, oddball question, Did your cousin by any chance get his motor installed at Metro Ford in North Hollywood about 1 year ago? Just curious, cause I used to work there and someone bought that same motor and put it in a 68 coupe and had it installed there. Small world if it was!

I remember the car. The first person who helped your cousin had no idea what was going on, so I helped out with some of the oddball parts needed to put the old style pully setup with the proper crank pulley and dampner. I drove out to Hawaii Racing a few times to get parts for his car. I ended up putting the same motor in my mustang a few months later. Now I'm working at Vista Ford in Oxnard in the service department. You guys should come out sometime and let me see your cars! Later!

Yeah, damn they really took forever and fucked around. The motors supposed to have 315hp, but as you can see we aren't anywhere near that. Stock motored 5.0's with 200k miles are running the same if not faster times.

WTF?!!!!!
