![]() I'm still looking for an intake/carb set-up that I am happy with and have a few more quick questions. What is the difference between high and low rise intakes, will I have clearance issues? With some prices I found there is only about a $20 difference so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on a better set-up. Also, this is really broad but I was wondering if anyone had any more suggestions as to some engine maintainence/clean-up that I should probably do while having the carb and intake out of the way. I have done some simple things to the car in the short amount of time that I have had such as plugs and wires, valve cover gaskets, heater hoses, etc. but if I'm going to have it in the garage, out of commision for a while I would like to do all that I could. Any quick fix suggestions or common problem areas to look for would be great.
Thanks! |

![]() It's all in the RPM bands...
You need to know how you want to drive the car... and what mods you want to do to it. If you want an everyday driver, without huge mods... a Performer (dual plane regular height... idle to 5500 RPM) and a 600 cfm or SMALLER is the way to go. A Performer RPM (dual plane higher height) moves that band up by 1000 RPMs... 1500 - 6500 RPMs, again, I wouldn't go with anything bigger than a 600 cfm with that either, unless you are doing a lot more, which it doesn't sound like. I think that the Performer RPMs are alright on height, but anything taller will probably require either a low profile air cleaner, or a hood modification. As far as the engine... while you have it apart... play dressup!!! simple things like cleaning and painting the water pump, fan, radiator spacer and all the areas that you can get to while it is in the car... clean up the wiring, to... may as well. New hoses belt(s) may as well be replaced while you're at it. If you are really looking for potential problems... and don't mind the money... check out the suspension, brakes, frame rails, and floor boards... |
