![]() I am finally getting my car painted (1965 Coupe) next week. It has new fenders and the old ones are gone so I don't have any reference. Can anyone tell me the best way to fine the location for the putting the running horse and 289 emblems back on the fender. I want to make sure they are in the correct location and eyeing them up might work, but if there is a better way - I sure would like to hear it.
Thanks!! |

![]() Unfortunately, I didn't save mine, but the Mustang Monthly Magazine ran such an article in one of their past issues a few years ago. It showed the proper location, with exact measurements, of all emblems for 64-73. I needed it when I ordered my reproduction trunk lid which didn't come pre-drilled for the "MUSTANG" letters. You might try their web site (www.mustangmonthly.com) and see if you can somehow get a copy of that issue (believe it was a 2 part story over 2 months).

![]() If you cant find the "official" specs, let me know, and I'll measure out the holes/remaining emblems on my 66. Should be the same. (?)
(I would just go do it, but honestly, I'm heading for bed ![]() J

![]() I looked for the article, but did not come up with anything. I would appreciate it if you could measure. I have to get these drilled before we paint on Sunday. If not - I will just do my best a eyeing it. What I need is the "289", "running horse" and "Mustang script" - Thanks in advance..

![]() Take a sheet of paper large enough to trace the wheel opening and tape it to the old fender. Then trace the wheelwell opening along the edge and along the back edge of the fender. after you have done that, mark your holes on the paper. Then tape the piece of paper on the new fender and line up your marks and mark your holes in the new fender. Then drill starting with a very tiny drill and go up until the hole is the correct size. I bought some templates from a Mustang Parts Store once apon a time, it has all the mounting holes on the whole car. I went and looked but it doesn't say the name of the store. Knowing my ordering habits it was from www.texasmustang.com or www.laurelmountainmustang.com.

![]() Thanks for the advice Orange - Problem is that I don't have the old parts. I have a new car with new fenders and nowhere to go. My mistake for getting rid of the old stuff so fast, but it's too late now. I am stuck here..but I will check out the links you provided..
Thanks again!! TJ |

![]() OK, heres what I just got: (BTW measurements were taken with a "garment" measure, horizontal:stretched tight from point to point, not laid along the body contours, vertical WAS laid along the contours).
"289", using the center of the "8" as the measure point, H:5 5/8" back from front edge of fender, not the headlight bucket V: 1" below the fender crease. "pony" , center of emblem as measuring point, H:6 1/2" back from wheel well, (this should put the back hole right at 8" back) V: 9" even down from fender crease "mustang"script, measured from the bottom of the script and far left tip of "m", H: 9 1/4 back from wheel well, V: 9 3/4 from crease to bottom of script. Hope it helps, Jorge
