![]() Well i just got my stock heads resurfaced, due to a blown head gasket and blown instake gasket as well. I am about to start reassembling the top of my motor, and I was curious how how I should set the rockers? Stock lifters, stock pushrods, stock springs/valves, and stock rockers. I removed the pushrods to remove the heads, but the lifters, and the rest of the heads were never disassembled. Just the rockers were loosend enough so i could slide the pushrods out. Im not sure if i supposed to start at TDC or what. This will be the first time I've ever adjusted the rockers. thanks alot everyone

![]() its kinda hard to explain in short words. Do you have a chilton manual? I found it very helpful because it goes over it in detail. You can get one at the auto parts store and it has the torque specs you need, etc.

![]() Yes, I actually have a chilton's manual and a helms manual. They are stud mount rockers. I also just got my heads back from the machine shop, and he told me that the drivers side was off 5 thousands, and the passenger side was off between 8-9 thousands. He also told me not to use a gasket between the front of the lower intake and back of the lower into to the block, to instead use silicon gasket maker and make sure it's o2 compatible.

![]() Ya, don't use those gaskets at the front and rear of the manifold. I had one pop out on me before. Use high temp silicone. Squeeze a real thick bead along the front and back of the block where the manifold sits. Let it sit for a little while to get tacky before setting the manifold on.
You'll need to find TDC on #1 to put the distributor back in. Then it's a matter of adjusting the valves. Plenty of info on the web on how to adjust valves. It sounds scarier than it is. Good luck!

![]() If you have the stock heads, then you have pedastal rockers (non-adjustable).
