Any Sucessful 22gal. tanks Installed

Hi Guys

Are they're any successful installation of 22 GALLONS FUEL TANKS
that any of you guys have done :confused:

I need to know for sure that:

1~ The 22 gallon new fuel tank was installed.
2~ Was bought for a 1970 Mustang.
3~ The sending unit for the gas guage was calibrated correctly,
and works just fine. :)
4~ Your opinion of the application i.e. are you satisfied :) or not
or not with your project :(

I have a company that says that the application will fit and the sending unit will work just fine.

I still count on you guys only. You have the experiences and I don't. :confused:

I did it years ago on a 68 Mustang. No big deal. It just sticks up into the trunk some.

As far as the gauge goes, sorry don't remember what I did or if it was accurate. I'm pretty sure I just put the original sender back in the larger tank. It would just stay on full longer.

Here's what I got on this crazy 22gal.tank so far.

1- The tank has problems like: the neck on the tank has a different bend on it.
2- The steel filler tube will not meet the tank neck.
3- The guy at: MustangPlus.com says you got to motify the tank neck and or the filler tube on the car in order to have a good connection.

BIG NEGETIVE HERE :rolleyes: ~ THE TANK or SENDING UNIT DOESN'T COME WITH A LOW WARNING SIGNAL. Unless the guy at: MustangPlus doesn't know what the heck he's talking about. :eek:

I can't believe that a 1970 Mustang tank doesn't come with a LOW WARNING SIGNAL!!! :confused:

If you or any of the guys out there can ADD to this info ~ PLEASE,PLEASE let me know. I surely would love to put the tank in my car. :)

P.S. Does Cougar have a larger tank that will come close to what I'm loooooking 4 :eek:

If I remember I cut the filler pipe and made the rubber hose fit.

The reason the replacement sender doesn't have a "Low fuel sender" is, from my understanding the aftermarket doesn't make one. And any that are out there are just old units or "cobbled" up units with parts from who knows where.

The cougar tank is the same as the Mustang. On the early cougars 67-68 the fuel fill is in the same place as a Mustang, except the license plate covers it. It's between the huge long tail lamps.

Still sounds like a very good project, if the extra fuel means that much to you. I don't really care that much for more fuel. When I had my 68 FB Mustang I drove it to Atlanta, GA to a large Mustang show. Around 400 miles one way. Stopped every 100 miles for gas. Small tank, 9-10 mpg. Plus, I needed to stop. Believe me, these old cars are NOTHING like driving their modern brethren of today. I love to drive them around town and on short hops.....but several hundred miles on the road....just not as much fun.

Even though I still have my 16 gallon tank, I think the 21 gallon installation is a good idea. It won't be that difficult to make the connection for the fuel filler and the gas gauge work. I may still put in that 21 gallon tank myself.
