![]() Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have a pink 65 convertible (grandpa bought it new for grandma that year) 6cyl 200 cid, c4 auto. My aunt has owned the car ever since my granny was deemed too advanced in age to wrestle it down the road (about 20 years ago), and I was chosen to be the next generation's owner, as I've been a mechanic for 25 years (own a volvo repair shop). I've had the car for about 3 years.
About a year into my stewardship, the carburetor started leaking gas out of the upper housing (thru the metal, not thru a gasket). I put a rebuilt (1 barrel) on it, and set it up with the help of the "red" ford shop manual for 65 comet, falcon, fairlane, & mustang. Ever since the carb replacement, the car stalls decelerating, and is very difficult to start at times (like vapor lock)- usually after sitting for 10 minutes on a very hot day, engine fully warmed up. Also after starting in the morning, driving to the coffeehouse (3 minutes of driving), getting a cup of coffee (car off for 3 minutes)- when trying to restart, it's flooded- when it does finally start, giant disgusting cloud of black smoke out the tailpipe. I put yet another rebuit carb on last year- same results. This was not happening with the origional carb, and began immediately upon installing the first rebuit one. Any ideas? |
