Default carb wont work after rebuild

i just rebuilt my carb its a autolite 2100 i followed the intructions got it all back together and back on the car it worked just fine. i changed the oil sparke plugs distributor cap and rotor and plug wires. now it will start but has a hard time doing so. i fiddle with fast idle rod so that it starts ( its really really tight by the way have to use a little force to push it down or up) once its starts it runs perfect until you let the gas off then it just dies completly. did i do sime thing wrong or is it just an adjusment that i need to make?
