![]() Hey, i've been having some problems with my 302 i rebuilt awhile ago. This has been happening mostly after im done doing some racing. The weird thing is that I shift at 6k out of first and second, (3 speed transmission) and the oil pressure stays up all through the gears, but then when i put in the clutch and jump on the brakes the oil pressure drops to under 10. What im thinking is that I need a windage tray or baffle, what do you guys think? The good news is that I beat my brothers camaro, plus a friends cobalt (didnt expect much from the cobalt one ovbiously) Oh, and by the way sometimes my engine just dies after i put in the cluth after my "run" and i can build my oil pressure back up from below 10 if i rev it up a bit, though difficult when trying to stay on the brakes! Thanks for any info guys.

![]() Do you have a high volume oil pump? If so, it can pump most of your oil up top with those 6000 RPM runs and leave a low level in the pan. With the hard braking that might uncover the pick up mometarily and lead to the low pressure reading. Just a thought.

![]() I have a stock oil pump, when i was rebuilding it i was told not to go that route. Thats what i was thinking too, what can i do to fix that? A baffled oil pan? Oh, and now I have also beat a older rx-7. It did pretty well through my first gear, then when i hit second i was gone. So what do others do to keep the oil pressure up when spinning it high?

![]() You might check that your new gaskets are not partialy blocking your oil drain back from the heads, but I would think that your on the right track with the baffel idea. You might also consider adding another quart of oil in the pan, you won't have any windage problems.

![]() I'm still thinking a windage tray and a crank scraper might keep the oil down in the sump better and should give you a few hp as well. The ones I use are made by Canton and seem to work fairly well as far as I can tell. Most manufacturors claim 15 hp, but who really knows.

![]() here's what it sounds like to me.
when u hit the brakes, all the oil rushes forward. a lot of the older cars didn't have a plate in the oil pan to keep the oil from going forward, like the newer cars. The oil pickup for the pump is in the rear of the oil pan.
