![]() Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum so I will introduce myself. My name is Ben and I am from Montreal, Canada. While in the States last week, I came accross a 1965 Fastback and I am thinking of buying it. I will tell you guys all the info I was able to gather about the car (not much) and you guys can please tell me what else I need to know (ask the seller or have checked). From the outside the car looks good, it was originally red but was painted silver. The floor panels and trunk have been replaced with new sheet metal because they were all rusted. The owner said there was no rust left on the car. I think he mentioned he replaced on of the back panels too. The car starts and runs fine. The engine looks fine, does not leak and he said it was original. The only issue with it is when put into Rear the tranny takes a few moments before it clicks into gear. From the inside, the car looks alright, just alright. Carpet needs redone and the dash needs to be replaced. That is about all the information I have on the vehicle. This would not be a small purchase for me, so I would like to make sure I am not getting ripped off. So what else do i need to know? What numbers should I check? All information will be extremely valuable. If there was already a thread with this info posted on it, please direct me to it. Thanks everybody. ![]() B. |

![]() The single most problem (Major) is the cowl rusting out and water pouring onto your feet while driving.
When water enters the cowl vent, its suppose to drain off to either side on cowl, onto the ground. Think of A/C dripping water from a new car. When enough crap cloggs the drain holes the rust begins. Fenders/windshield/dash all have to come out to reapir. Major bucks if you pay someone. Major time if you do it. All mustangs did this. You can try looking into the vent with a flashlight. Better if a fender is off. Or flood the vent with water and watch for the interior to fill up. ---- Floor pans and frame rails all rust too. But are not real bad to fix yourself. Parts are readily availible for any part on any mustang.

![]() mustangII460, hit most of the rust areas. The Cowl is very important. Very, Very expensive to repair.
Bottom of front fenders, below the emblems. Left lower corner of doors. Forward of the rear wheels on the 1/4's. Also, the inner rear wheel houses rust out, plus the torque boxes. Really, everything metal rusts on our beloved old Mustangs. The transmission going into reverse slow. If it is full of fluid, the seals are starting to dry out. Means it will need an overhaul soon. Why don't you hire someone to inspect the car before you buy it. Get someone that knows Mustangs. They aren't hard to find. Check with a Mustang Club if you have trouble finding someone. Good Luck
