Post 87-93 Remote Mount TFI Module

Does any one know if one is made?

I have gone through 3 modules in the past month.

The one that came with the distributor didn’t have any dielectric grease.
The second was off of my old distributor died after a week or two later
The third was from Holley lasted about a week, and made my car idle and rev weird.

I am going to try to fab something up with one of my old modules any suggestions?

Yikes, what a bummer man. Do you have huge amounts of heat under your hood??

I never realy got an answer before about this but if you switch to a MSD ign box or the like this may bypass the TFI module. At least with a GM HEI that is how it works, the MSD plugs directly into the Hall effect trigger, then to the coil.

EFI 351W + Vortech T Trim = Ton of heat,

I just bought the distributor this year and it wasn’t cheep, but it looks good, (Accel Billetech). I really don’t think it is going to be that much work to move this thing, I was just hoping that some one makes a pre-made wiring harness, or some one worked out all the bugs.

The '94/95 has a remote TFI module on their inner fender. It seems to me that all you need to do is extend the wiring harness to reach wherever you wish to locate your module. The only thing I would worry about is the added resistence in each wire that you will have once you extend them. I consider myself to be very brave, but I would be nervous about doing that.

I think I found out why I have been going through so many TFI Modules. My coolant temp stays constant around 180, but I had a large amount of heat coming from the engine itself. To the point where you couldn’t put your hand on the upper intake it was that hot. I pulled the distributor after it was idling and it was almost too hot to handle.

I think I have found the problem the drivers side header flange is hitting the block where one of the bell housing mounting bolt are, it actually burned a hole in the header flange. I am going to trim as much off the flange as possible and try to remove the excess flashing off of the block.

The headers are MAC shorties, looking for a ceramic shorty replacement, NE1 want a set of 351 headers cheep before I do some trimming?

Do you think this was causing the excess temperatures in my engine?

When's the last time you replaced your spark plug wires? And with what brand? 95% of the time a module fails, it's because of bad wires. I've had my replacement TFI on for over a year. I replaced the wires at the same time, too, and haven't had a problem since.

...on the other hand, if the exhaust is blasting right onto the module, that's an entirely different story there.

I have all ways used Ford Racing 9mm wires, I changed them about a week after I replaced the Module. How do the wires effect the TFI module and what do you check to see if that could be the cause.

I fixed the header problem and have a good ¼ to ½ clearance between the block and header flange.

FYI, Go to the junk yard and pick up the TFI harness and heatsink from a 91-95 econoline van 5.0-5.8. I paid $15 and it words great and the harness already has the resistor pack built-in. Now for the greater news if you get one from a 5.8 use the TFI that is on it and gain 40% faster spark duration. I have tested both 5.0 and 5.8 modules for the vans and the 5.8 has more duration built in it and this is the module to be honest that myself and other companies are re-labeling as hot TFI modules. My customer are aware of this after they spend $40. The 5.8 modules only show a improvement on stick cars because they can use the extra duration with out detonation.
