Post 85 302

Im going to put in a 85 302 w/86 heads and raise the comp. to get around 300 hp. What kind of track times would that do on a 66 Stang w/ c-4 tranny

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but with 1986 heads, you're never going to see 300 horsepower. Those are THE single worst year for performance of the 5.0L, bar none. You may also want to find an '87-'93 block for a little more strength, and a rotating assembly from '87-91.

Anyhoo, a '66 with the kind of setup you're running....um, mebbe mid- to low-14's. We don't know what gears, intake, cam, shift kit, etc. you're running, but I can absolutely say that those heads are going to be the limiting factor.

also looking at 1971 302 with 78' heads or a 1979 302 with 78 heads. Which do you think would be better with a higher compression.

The 86 compression came from flat top pistons not the crappy worst heads to own.

The 71 302 would be a way better choice. I would try to find E7TE heads to go with it. But if not run it the way it is.

Cool

if you really want to bump compression... find a set of 65-66 heads with the 53cc chamber.. over 10-1 with a flat top..

What was the fastest stock 302 engine. I tried to find a table of the horsepower ratings but lucked out. I have a set of 65 Hi-Po heads I was sellng for 750.00 to make up the cost of a new engine.
