I just bought a 68 GT and before I bought it I had a friend look it over. He is a Mustang nut. Anyway he said it was an early model 68 with a 289 put in it from the factory. The side emblems say it is a 302 and the VIN says it was made on March 7, 1967(early model) it was made in San Jose California. Everything on the VIN is correct except for the engine code. It is for a 302. My friend said that they didn't have 302's to put in the early 68's. It doesn't really matter but I would like to know if anyone else has heard of this. He told me this without ever looking at the VIN. I was told that the engine is the original one. You can see the car I posted a pic under User Rides. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Cool, according to the Mustang Recognition Guide 68s came with 289 2-barrels until the middle of the production year and were code C. The 289s were replaced by the 302 2-barrel and were code F. The 302 4-barrels were installed from the beginning of the production year and were code J. Hope this helps.

is it possible that the engine was swapped somewhere along the way?.....just a thought...
