Angry car still cuts out at high rpm

I put new spark plug wires on, new rotor and cap, and new spark plugs and it still cuts out at high rpms. Could it be the carb is running lean or the timing is too high?? getting frustrated need help wanna run it this weekend.

Not sure what motor or carb you have.

Does it cut out reving in neutral, or just under excelleration?

If it is under excelleration it is probibly in the fuel system, to enclude lines, pump, carb, filter etc.

Will it catch itself when you let out of it? Or just dies and has to be restarted? This is a fuel pressure problem.

If your running electric pump make sure it is close to the tank and has enough voltage to it.

Blocked fuel lines/filter can cause this also.

Ofcourse the carb could be off,float/excel pump/power valve.

If your timing was too high or low it would just rattle or ping, shouldnt cut out or off.

Well it cuts out and when i let off of the gas it does what its suppose to do. It does it under acceleration, it doesnt do it in neutral. i have an edelbrock 600 on a 302 bored .060 over, 282 comp cam, edelbrock intake, headers, 2 1/2 in exhaust, head work.

I would go with your float is off,or your pump is just not getting it.

It will take alot more gas with your mods.

They sell high volume mechanical pumps for cheap. I have used these with great success.

You can get a inline electric job for @ $60.00. or so.

ok im pissed now, my floats are right, put a new fuel filter on it, new wires, rotor and cap, and plugs. i havent done the pump yet but the only other thing it could be is the pertronix ignition i have in the distributer. I timed it and everything i could think possible to make it do that, i put a new coil on it and that didnt work. I even put my cousins holley on there and it still did it. ????????????

It's the fuel pump. When you let off the throttle alittle, you aren't demanding as much fuel. And it runs OK.

Get a high volume pump or go electric.

Your cousins holley may not be tuned for your engine. I used to run a Carter 600 and always had problems keeping it in tune, bought so many trick and super-tuning kits now that I know that the Carter-Edelbrock carb design sucks for performance compared to Holley. What secondary jet size do you have? I might have said to check those before you said you used a different carb and it still did it. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge, they aren't much and you can mount it inside the cabin if you use an electrical gauge. If you haven't tuned carbs before they are hell to learn and easy to get frustrated. I have a Holley 700 DP and the blue pump and reg on my 289, but I have a high rpm cam and single plane intake and it runs like a champ on the street as well as ocasional track use.

My cousin has an 83 mustang and we have pretty much the same setup except he was 351 dart cast iron heads and i have the stock 2 barrell heads. i have more compression than he does by far. i can still hang with him in the quarter. Me and a friend we set the floats and adjusted it right we just didnt touch the jets and the jet are the same ones since he bought it at autozone about 2 years ago.
