![]() Just wondering if you guys know bout the 429 Thunder Jet? A guy here has one out of a 68 Thunderbird with C-6 for sale. I think the heads had C8VE-E on it. Is this motor a pretty good runner or is it a dog. Ive got a 460 short block ready just needin a set of heads. He's asking 750 for the set up, everythings there too. Whatcha think. Thanks.

![]() 429 Thunder Jet is the same as the basic 460.
Ford put them in Lincoln and Torinos. The Thunder Jet should have rail type rockers, as was the case for 68. Not until the Cobra Jet in 1970 did canted valves, (Staggard rockers) come out. Both work good. You can find good parts for rail type rockers. However high RPM suffers compared to canted valve design. But unless you build a roller motor, you wont lose much if any. If you want a street tourqe monster they work great. Personally,I would use them. $200.00 for the used heads is a fair price. Oops: I got a little ahead of myself on the valves/rockers. I wuz thinkin of another combonation. Proof reading goes along way. Anyway, thanks for the flame. [This message has been edited by mustangII460 (edited 09-27-2001).] |

![]() not canted? I have a set of C8VE heads sitting here... all 429/460 heads have canted valves...
the prob with those older heads is that they are designed to run on leaded fuel... the valve seats aren't hardened... I'm not sure on the chamber CC's, my 429CJ heads are small, a flat top piston gives 11.7-1 compression... you might look for a set of CJ heads unless you need the parts off the 429.. ------------------ 84 convt,'95 302,AFR's, performer 3.55's, underdrives BBK shorties stock cam, 1.7's 13.85@102.5 and a '68 stang that WAS nasty ;-) |
