I've recently taken out my dash and instument console. When I put it back the gauges worked briefly and then went kaput. I've since replaced my fuses and the lights still work inside the console. what else could be blown? Help want to get this project finished.

What year?

It really doesn't matter, you probably fried the CVU (Constant Voltage Unit) aka CVR (Constant Voltage Regulator) mounted on the back of the cluster. It's not much bigger than the end of your thumb. It turns the 12vdc signal into a 5vdc signal, which is what the gauges are designed to run on. If it goes bad, you either have no voltage to the gauges, or too much, which may fry the gauges as well. The tach, if you have one, may still work even though the CVU is fried.

Take care

try your ground If it's not grounded right it won't work

Normally that would be a great suggestion, but not in this case.
The ground for each gauge comes from it's specific sending unit (ie: the gas gauge ground comes from the sending unit in the gas tank, the water temp gauge get's it's ground from the water temp sending unit, etc.). The ground that would affect the cluster would be for the lights, but he said the lights work.

Take care
