Does anyone know how to bench bleed a master cylinder. I got a dual master for my car and it says to bench bleed it before putting it in, and I don't kow how. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your master cylinder should have came with 2 plastic fittings that screw into the holes where the brake lines would normaly go. Attach a piece of plastic hose to the other end of the fitting and run the 2 pieces of the hose back to the reservior of the master cylinder. Put the master cylinder firmily in a vice, or clamp it down somehow. Fill the reserviors and use a screw driver to pump the piston in the back of the master cylinder. Pump the master cylinder until air bubbles stop coming up in the reservior. It is a real pain and makes a huge mess.

73 Mustang Boy Is Exactly Correct on the procedure of Correctly bench bleeding the new unit. The only comment that I would make is that the new or rebuilt unit may not have come with the fittings described. If it does not you could do 1 of 2 things.
#1. Goto to just about any good Auto parts store and ask for the bleed kit, which will include the fittings and two probably clear bleed hoses. -OR-
#2. If you have some old blake lines laying around (preferrable the flexible type) you can use them and save your self the trip to the parts store and the approx. $5-$10 price of the bleed kit.
Either way, Good luck...

Thanks guys, helped out alot. The master cylinder came with the 2 fittings, all I need is a clear tube and I'm all set.
