Cool Swapping trannies

I just got a 68 with a 289 3 speed auto that has just been rebuilt, even has a warranty. I would like to swap it for a 4 speed toploader. Here in Phoenix, I found a used one for $900 with shifter but the rest of the parts cost around $400. I'm in high school and this is my first car so what do you guys think? Can I find someone to swap me out? Dave

Dave, I wouldn't be expecting an even swap for a 4 speed. I think it will cost some extra, not sure how much. Good luck with the project.

For that kind of money, I would consider a t5 5 speed swap. Real popular now.

Sounds great! Where do I get one, how much do they cost and will it fit without drive shaft modifications?

Cool

I put a t5 in my 65 for $800. I like it much better than the toploader I used to have. I didn't have to modify my driveshaft, although some people do. Just depends on what rearend you have.
Get one from at least an 89 stang cause they can handle more torque.
