Something is wrong, he either had had very large tires or he doesn't really know his backspacing.
I can tell you this. I ran 15 x 8 Cragar SSs with 4.25 BS and a 255/60/15 in the rear of my 70 convertible. It looked great and would barely rub on occassion when the backseat was full of passengers. It had a real soft factory suspension with lots of travel. It literally gallopped over the Pensacola Bay Bridge on those memorable hot summer nights.
But I digress, a 245/60 would have never rubbed.
In the front I had 15 x 7s with with off the shelf backspacing. These never rubbed and looked great.
