1966 289 Wiring Question

Putting my '66 289 back together after sitting in storage a long, long, long..... time. Over the years I have collected new and used parts to use for this restoration. I recently plugged in the 3 wire connector from the alternator to the headlight/regulator harness and noted that there is no connection going directly to the battery from the alternator(the alternator harness is new). Am I missing something here? The 3 wire plugs do not have matching wire colors. Could I have the wrong headlight/regulator harness? Is there another path that is not obvious?

Not using a generator.

I found a local Mustang shop here today and was able to verify that I installed a headlight/regulator harness from a '65 in my '66. They are two different animals. I must have swapped it out a long time ago, don't remember. And since I just got it running........ Anyway, I ordered a new one. That should fix the problem.

It's a 289 that has been freshly rebuilt.
