Question 1966 mustang question

i was wanting to know if anyone here knew how to set the timing on a 1966 mustang with the 6 cylinder engine, we have adjusted the timing up and down and it wont act right. when we advance the timing the car idols great and runs good to 30 mph, but when it gets up to highway speed on wont go to save its life. when we retard the timing it idols horrible and dont want to run but then you get up to highway speed and it runs perfect. thanks for the help and your time.

It sounds like your vaccuum advance diaphragm might be bad. I think I used to set the timing on mine around 12 drgrees.
Hope this helps!

I second the vacuum advance. My car was running exactly like that and a new canister fixed it. About 20 bucks at Discount Auto Parts and about 20 minutes to replace.

Gotta love old cars for cheap parts...
